Title: GA-P67A-UD4 - OCZ RevoDrive not working
Post by: bluelou on January 12, 2011, 10:41:25 pm
I have just bought the new GA-P67A-UD4 motherboard along with the new Sandy Bridge CPU from Intel. I am also planning to resuse my excicting RevoDrive (Raid 0 Sandforvce SSD PCI-E based HD) however I am having a major issue with the disk/card and my new GA-P67A-UD4 motherboard.

When I have the graphic card in the x16 PCI-E lane and the RevoDrive in the x8 PCI-E lane, I get no video singal what so ever - just a black screen. Furthermore the machine enters a boot-loop mode. If I remove the RevoDrive everything works fine. I am also sure the RevoDrive is ok as it works fine at my old X38 based computer.

I also know that the RevoDrive works fine with the P67 ASUS mobo lineup.

Anyone able to help?

Spec:
CPU: Core i7 2600K
Mobo: GA-67A-UD4
Mem: 16 GB Corsair 1600 MHZ CL8
PSU. Gigabyte Odin GT 800W
Video: Gigabyte GTX 570
BIOS ver on mobo: F7b

Hi and wecome to the Gigabyte Forum.

My first thought would be that becuase the PCIE bus is shared by installing the Revodrive in the PCIE x8 slot you are forcing the PCIE x16 slot to perform in x8 mode also. Your GPU probably doesn't appreciate this and that is where your problems stem from.

Well that is my theory as well.

The RevoDrive needs an x4 PCI-E lane and there is no other options on this mobo.

An idea on possible workarounds?

Doesn't this board has a PLX chip or something similar?

Just wanted to add that the problem is the same regardless of which PCI-E lane I place the RevoDrive and/or video card.

Since this is obvious a motherboard issue, I guess Gigabyte needs to release a BIOS update for it?

Just bought a new OCZ RevoDrive 120gb along with a similar setup

Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD5
Processor: Intel Core i7-2600K

Problem: I can't reach POST if I have the card on any PCI-X slot.  Can only POST if I remove the card, which sounds like some kind of compatibility issue

I'd also like to know as soon as possible, to decide if I should return the RevoDrive, or the mainboard :)

Got an msg from Gigabyte support earlier today that they had been able to reproduce the issue in their labs. Currently this issue is at the BIOS engineer's desk..e

At least that is something. When they know there's a problem they can usually do something about it.

Hi There,

I started a system build this morning and when moving my revodrive from my old PC to my new one - which is a Intel i5 2500, GTX 470 (evga) and the motehrboard listed above GA-67A-UD4 I get the same issue: namely the system gets stuck in a boot cycle re-booting every 5 seconds or so (and the screen constantly stays black).

I'm currently on the F7b bios and would very much like to try the 'd' bios mentioned above. Does anyone know where I can get this?

Thanks in advance!

I think the OP got it from GGTS.

Just go to the website and put in your email address.

Of course I am googeling but everywhere I go I don't find the F7 D version, on the official website the latest bios version is F7 B. Olso in your link you will see that that F7D version is missing.

Thanks Pierre,
first when i clicked on your link I did not see the correct bios version because it was the wrong motherboard (ud5 instead of ud4). Bot on that site is also the correct bios for my mobo. here is the link  for others with the same problem:

What other components are you running and what PSU is powering them ?

Well the lay out runs as follows, I5 processor 4GB RAM G-Force N430 graphics (we specialize in CCTV products) 2 X 16ch PCI capture cards and 2.25 TB

All this is driven by a 720watt Gigabyte Oden PSU...

Taking the PC to the supplier for answers now... Would still love to see your reply tho

To be honest I don't know that much about CCTV or the cards and so don't understand what sort of power they use or resources. This makes it hard to determine what could be wrong.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

You must download the @BIOS program form the website and use that to run the BIOS update for the first time. Once completed you should be able to go back to using QFlash as per normal. The reason for this is the original BIOS and utility were buggy.
