Title: GTX 460 SOC running @ x1in x16 slot?!
Post by: spike_spiegel on February 13, 2011, 09:35:05 pm
could anyone help :?
i am running a gigabyte gtx 460 soc in a p8p67 board. i only recently realised that the card has been running in this mode as i had benchamrked my system and had recieved some low 3dmark 06 score of ~12000 i am confused as to why it is running at x1. there is no other card in the secondary x4 slot and folding (gpu) produces ~800 ns/day
my system spec is as follows,
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1650191
http://3dmark.com/3dmv/2913267
also when i put a 9800gt into the same slot i get x16

Hi and welcome tot he Gigabyte Forum.

Firstly have you tried asking on the Asus forum as I would normally expect it to be motherboard related.

However has the card got the full power required  being supplied to it?

What PSU are you using?

Does this issue still occur when you haven't overclocked the system?

hi,
i havent asked at the asus website because i have a suspect it is the card itself which is causing the pci-e x1. i have tested a 9800gt in the same port and that reports a x16..
i have both 6pins plugged into the card
the psu i am using is the seasonic 620w m12ii bronze (http://www.seasonicusa.com/M12II-Bronze.htm)
i am also experiencing this issue without the system being overclocked - i have turned off turbo mode

The best way to be sure would be to try the card in another system and see if it works alright  at 16x or not.

ok so i tried to use the exact same settings as my sandy rig with win 7 x64, only difference is the M/B and cpu (am3) and only 2gb ram as i didnt wanted to take off the nh-d14 cooler to access the other ram stick. this is what i found,
http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/5052/gand.jpg
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/1241/gand2.jpg
http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/3420/gand3.jpg
this tells me that the gpu itself is throttled (x8) but when inserted in the sandy its throttled further to x1. maybe its something to do with the power phases on the gpu :?
the 9800gt in the am3 with similar setup is reported as x16 so both motherboards aren't the issue

Yes I agree that it would seem to be card specific and so I think you should RMA the card back to the retailer.
