Title: GA-870A-UD3 unstable with all four RAM slots in use

Ok... after a few months of no problems after my previous issue I decided to buy more memory to have 16GB in one system.

Unfortunately right off the bat I'm having issues.  I tried to go through memtest yet again (for 18 hours) and it came out fine, yet when I'm using the machine normally it just goes random BSOD every so often.  All I've done is add more memory.

I've also tested the original pair (which has been working fine for a few months now) and the new pair by themselves, they are ok.

Is this a matter of just having all the ram slots in use?  Do I just go back to 8GB or slow down from 1333mhz to 1066mhz?

I'm going to back down to 8GB with the new pair to see if it gives me any more trouble again.

you have to add voltage to CPU-NB VID control put it at 1.24v

Is this safe?  Can I alternatively use 1066mhz rather than increasing NB voltage?

How about disabling channel interleaving?

Hi there,

What CPU are you running?

Increasing the voltage, as Christoph stated, won't cause any problem and often helps in improving system stability when running with all four memory slots filled. You could also try increasing the voltage a little on your RAM as this may help

Lowering the speed of your RAM to 1066MHz is also an option and by doing so you may be able to tighten the timings a little. It is also the easiest and probably safest option.

Thank you for the replies.

The CPU is a Phenom II X6 1090T

I will try slower timings to start with when I get a chance, and then the small voltage bump later.

The machine seems to run fine with either pair by themselves (in slot 1,3) although I'm hoping its not an issue with slots 2,4.

I figured it was a fiddly issue as such, as I've read of other people having problems with full ram banks as well on other mainboards.   I'm guessing this is just a quirk of the integrated memory controllers vs. the older days.

It is exactly the same on the Intel platform. Triple channel memory will run fine but as soon as you add another three sticks it just doesn't want to know without compensating for the extra loading on the memory controller with more voltage.

This seems a bit high?  The default NB voltage on this board is 1.1v...

I'd imagine a reasonable increase on RAM voltage would be 1.55v over 1.5v as well.

I would prefer not to really fry anything ^^;

the default is not 1.1, is 1.17, so puting it at 1.24v should be enough, and CAN EVEN BE NOT enough, but I think with 1.24v is good you shouldn't have any problem


as for the RAM, yeah, 1.54/1.55 whatever it gives you, is good


and don't worry those voltages are way too low to burn anything

I figured I should give an update on this.

Been running on 1066mhz @ 7-7-7-20 with no issues so far, so slower memory but tighter timings is ok with all four sticks.

When you mean NB voltage do you mean "CPU NB Voltage" or just "NB Voltage" as there are two different ones on this board?

Given how 1066mhz isnt exactly slow (only 400mb/sec slower in memtest) I may just keep it this way and not really bother with the higher voltages to get 1333mhz to work.
