Title: Moving a RAID 0 on x58a-ud3r

I had some problems on my system I had put together a couple weeks ago with an x58a-ud3r motherboard. After trying to troubleshoot the issue here it was determined it was either the motherboard or possibly the CPU. (The system reboot every 3 seconds.) I was able to return the motherboard/CPU and my new components came today. The problem is that the old system worked fine for 2 days and I was able to install a bunch of software on my 2 x 1TB hard drives configured as a RAID 0 array.

My question is - will it be possible to configure the system to boot back into Windows? Initially I had the RAID 0 configured on the Marvell chipset which you had urged against so I'm going to hook it up on the standard controller. Configuring a new array prompts that all data on the disks will be lost. Otherwise, I will have to request a second 'one time backup' that I was granted for some of my electronic purchases - which weren't finished downloading when the system crashed.

Post by: philomachus on March 16, 2011, 12:37:53 am: I read in one of the recent postings that you have to completely rebuild the array when you change controllers - which is what I had expected. I will go ahead rebuild it and just beg for another mass download from iTunes... Hopefully it will last this time! It's been a frustrating couple of weeks starting with buying a faulty hard drive which led me to build a new system (not realizing it was faulty) and then having the motherboard crash and wait a week and a half for a replacement. Anyway - fingers crossed this time.

i7-950 3.06 Ghz
3 x 2 Gb Crucial 1600
1 Gb 560 ti
2 x 1 Tb Raid 0 WD Black 7200
(while waiting for replacements orderd a Corsair H50 Cooling unit)

Good luck getting everything setup again! Ohh, and congrats on now having a working system too, enjoy! ;D

Post by: Dark Mantis on March 16, 2011, 09:02:49 am: Yes this is one of the dowsides to using a RAID array. They are not so mobile or flexible as a standalone disk. Especially annoying when you want to upgrade your platform, the only way around it is to use a seperate controller card.
