I tried using the known good cable on the suspected bad port and it doesn't even show power. I move back to the good connector and it works just fine.
This ever happened to you guys before? do I have a bad mother board by chance?

Hi,
If you mean one of the front usb connections on the PC case, NO
The front usb connections are connected to the motherboard via a header extension cable,
Your local pc dealer can fix this if you are unable to carry out fitting a new one yourself,
This depends on your case of course.
