Title: P67A-UD3-B3: Major issues with USB devices randomly disconnecting!
Post by: 996gt2 on May 11, 2011, 11:01:22 am
I've put up with it until now, but today the symptoms started getting worse and it's really driving me nuts!  I've had this problem on my P67A-UD3 and on my replacement P67A-UD3-B3 board, regardless of BIOS or Windows installation (I reinstalled Windows 7 after getting the B3 stepping replacement but the USB issues remained).

Basically, USB devices will randomly disconnect and then reconnect after a few seconds.  This is extremely frustrating when my MX518 mouse gets disconnected just as I am trying to navigate!  I've had my MX518, K800 keyboard, USB card reader, flash drive, and even my iPhone (connected via USB) be randomly disconnected!  The problems happen regardless of where the devices are plugged into...I've had it happen with devices plugged into the back panel ports, the front panel ports on my case, and the USB hub on my Dell Ultrasharp monitor.  Also, it does not matter whether the devices are plugged into USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 ports...the random disconnecting can happen either way.

Can someone PLEASE shed some light on this issue?  It's driving me crazy!  My system specs are listed below.  I am running Windows 7 Pro X64 with latest updates.  My board has the latest F3 BIOS.

Core i5-2500K @ 4.2 GHz (1.28v @ 100% load in Windows), PLL Overvoltage OFF in BIOS, tested stable in LinX and Prime95 for 12+ hours.
2x4GB DDR3-1333 (not overclocked, 1.5V)
Intel X-25M G2 80GB (newest 02M3 Firmware)-boot drive
Hitachi Deskstar 1TB 7200.C
WD 500GB 7200 RPM
Galaxy GTX 460 GC
Cooler Master Hyper 212+
Corsair GS 600 PSU

Windows 7 x64 Professional with latest updates

A list of USB devices I regularly use (all should have latest drivers):  Logitech MX518 mouse, Logitech K800 keyboard, iPhone, Card reader, Webcam

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Just to prove the fault can you disable your LAN chip in the BIOS and then see if the problem goes away.

Yes, the problem persists still.  I've had the same USB issues on both of the P67A-UD3 boards I've had (one B2, one B3 stepping).

Any ideas how to eliminate?  It happens with many USB devices and it does not matter which ports they are plugged into.

Since you had 2 boads performing this dance I think you can rule out mobo hardware fault/failure , for me I'm going for (First) a hardware conflict.........disconnect one USB item at a time and use the machine (if possibly) per normal.......if the problem rears it's ugly head, great you've just ruled out the first component, ...repeat this step till you find out which one is the culprit........if you go through all USB items with no change, you've just ruled out All USB hardware.......next one is software and driver conflicts..........same procedure  , just takes a little longer......

So to streamline the fault finding mission.... Hardware first......Drivers second...... then software , especially if it,s running in the background.

When you find the gremlin there might be a work around........Hope this helps

Yes it's all logical. Test one thing and move onto the next and so on. No magic in faultfinding just graft.

Hi

Try disabling the USB3 and ESATA in the BIOS and see if that makes any difference.

yeah i already tried disabling usb3 with no luck, however i just found where you can disable the computers ability to save power on the usb ports.

"Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under power management on the usb root hubs (i have 3)

so far i havent lost my connections however i havent been able to fully test this yet so fingers crossed  :-\
i'll get back to you guys with my results later

Let's hope that is all it was then. Will look forward to an update sometime soon.

No, i'm not sure where to check those, in bios? wouldnt a restart let the temps reset to normal if they were playing up?

Also check your Windows Power Saving Schemes as they can also have an influence.

In that case it sounds like a driver issue but if that's correct then I would have expected more owners to complain. Maybe the motherboard is just faulty ?

just got my PC back from the place i purchased it, i was sure it was the motherboard however they ran some heavy testing over 3 days and it all checks out, so best guess is just weird compatibility issues between it and my specific mouse or keyboard, i bought a flash new mouse no dramas but really dont want to part with my 1st ed G15 keyboard it is just too damn cool :D

im pretty confused by the situation as i tested it with a differant mouse back when it started happening maybe it will be as simple as getting a powered hub instead.

anyways cheers for your insights Dark Mantis it was a thorny problem to diagnose :D
