Title: Gigabyte GTX570 overclocked GV-N570OC-13I crashes!
Post by: elysion on May 15, 2011, 06:32:47 am
Hello

My GTX570OC crashes during games and during stability tests with MSI afterburner/Kombustor.

I downclocked it even to 732/ 1464.

Is there any bios update to correct the issue? Don't want to go RMA since i am outside of the purchased country without Gigabyte support.

Really driving me nuts...

I dont mind to have it underclocked at 732/1464 but it has to be running obviously..

BIOS: 70.10.17.00.03
Driver: 270.61

There is a new bios for the card, you can download it from here: http://gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3685#bios

Hi as already suggested try updating the firmware. If you still have a problem set the voltage to the same as the standard card.

the good thing is that the card is workin as long as i dont go for a game, that would mean the card is properly working?

will try the firmware patch and report back, some one tried it? does it correct the issue, I mean is it addressed in this firmware upgrade?

what is the standard voltage for the stock card? and with what program can i do it, MSI afterburner does not show me any voltage
thanks

Edit: the BIOS update did not solve the problem
Edit2: The voltage tewak solved the problem, stable at 0.963V, will check on how high i can go with that stock voltage,

think its not very professional btw to give out a oc version if the company can not verify on all cards that it works, so 3 out of 5 stars from my point of view, sorry

thanks

Glad the voltage tweak has helped sort the problem. I have heard of other users doing the same in this situation. The problem with any overclock is that no two chips or cards will behave the same and so when it is tried on a mass scale there are going to be failures. The only way to overclock properly is on a one off basis.

Be careful not to raise the voltage too much or you could end up burning out your card.

well i thought i solved it but then the display driver stopped working for 4 times and then finally i got the blank screen again after 2 hrs gaming.
I am on stock now with std clocks and 0.963V, what should i do now?

4x :
''The NVIDIA OpenGL driver detected a problem with the display
driver and is unable to continue. The application must close.

Please visit http://www.nvidia.com/page/support.html for help.
Error code: 4''

then black screen and 2 times:

''Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.''

Thanks

The only thing I can think of is to increase the voltage a touch to try and give it more stability.

i tried to set the voltag in MSI. i set .975 and in GPU-Z it shows me idle 0.906 and when i want to run kombustor it shows only 0.941 and then the system crashes and i have to hard reset.
what voltage do i have to set and where so that GPU-Z does show me .963-.967 or .975? thanks

I also noticed this on my 560 OC version. It looks like BIOS always uses lowest possible voltages, and sometime it is nit stable. SO I put lowest to 1.025 V and high to 1.075V, and problem is solved :)

I use Nibitor to modify BIOS, then flash card with that bios.

do you know a good tutorial for this
i have seen the Nibitor but i cant get to recognize the BIOS from the card which i downloaded from the gigabyte website...thanks

You can always go to Nibitor forum, system admin is very good men, he will "clean" BIOS and make it green integrity ( in Nibitor) and will also modified BIOS for you if you ask. I also spotted same thing as you, that Nibior have red integrity fro BIOS downloaded from web site, but with NVflash you can always extract BIOS from your card and give to him. As I say, he will clean BIOS and modified for you.

might have been a driver related issue and the msi afterburner on 2.2 beta2 version..

In Nvidia forum they said that error code 4 is corrupted registry or .inf file of the driver, or is the the VGA BIOS i updated?

I used the 285'er with selected 285 download for the 270.61 driver when i was experiencing the issues, might this have been an issue?

anyways, my new HDD and Ram arrived and i changed them and did a complete re-install, the card is reset back to stock voltage and clocks of the OC version.
should i use 3dMark instead for stability testing and OCCT only?

thanks

OCCT is a bit on the heavy side and whilst will test you card well will create a lot of heat and stress.  If you do use it make sure you keep an eye on the temperatures.

so which one you recommend in stead, i don't want to fry the chip. 3DMark?
all running smooth so far under 2D with the new F2 BIOS from GGB Site, not tested 3D apps yet though...
the BIOS is factory pre-clocked at 780MHz with 1.0255V which is reported to be good.
still checking the power distribution and voltage draw of my house and room and possible separation line for my room only to have everything as it should to rule out any other problems.

thanks

Every card must pass OCCT test if it is ok. If I buy new card, and pay for it, I will not see what test I "can" or "cannot" use !? Frying chip is also impossibile if card is ok: fan will be at 100% and will cool down GPU in reason temperatures. So  use OCCT, FURMARK and any other test you can find: card must pass it. If card dont pass it is not good, then return card to shop ( of course you must have strong and stable power supply, OK motherboard and OK RAM)

I wasn't saying he couldn't use OCCT just to make sure he kept an eye on the temperatures whilst he was. ;)

just found a possible issue with either my power distribution to my room or the psu.
the  mobo shows me in bios a too low 3.3v which should be around 31.-3.3 normally. i can read 2.89-2.912 and this is very bad. now checking both either the power coming to my room thus fixing a new direct line and also if the PSU had any damage (but its just 4 months old)...lets see

that also explains why my usb frequently not worked or booted up and why i had instant crashes as soon as i want to start a game or benchmark, so it sounds obvious, i hope the PSU still okay its a Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 1000W Modular, quite nice..

The chances are the PSU is fine although of course any can turn faulty. I always run my system through a APC 1500 UPS unit which as well as acting as a backup power supply also conditions the incoming mains to make it perfect. If you can afford one I would highly recommend their use.

well it was the issue it turns out. i changed the PSU and the voltage went back to normal, i guess it needs the 3.3v for 3d apps as well.
i am using a UPS and a voltage current surge protector, both of them, that's why i cant explain the PSU failing if it would come from a power related thing. well running so far and looking good.

what BIOS should i know use, i tried the stock and the F2 from the website both running on benchmarks.
Thanks

I wouldn't change the BIOS unless you have a problem that an update might fix. Anyhow I am glad that you got to the bottom of the problem. Is your PSU not under warranty ?

thanks, it is under warranty, but i am out of warranyt coverage here, lets see what to do, thanks
I need the original BIOS, did not make a back up, where can i get it? thanks

It should be available on the website for download. Failing that PM runn3R and see if he can get hold of it for you.

changed the PSU, card seems stable but then want to run 3DMark Vantage bench marked and it stopped, CPU and IOH voltage dropped, I assume i still have a big power / voltage problem in my room, the card seems fine though.
trying with the UPS today and remove the over under current protection adapter which i have between the pc and power wall socket.
that might have been an issue too but i doubt.
getting a direct line today to my room from the main breaker so i hope its sorted out today. thanks guys

Well let us know how you go and I am sorry for you out there in the Maldives struggling with your problem! I could always come and fix it for you... ;D

hi mate. looking good so far. I assume it has to do with my cabling, the 24pin atx goes to two more extensions and when i directly connect it to the mobo its working. also i installed the ASUS AI Suite II which gives me incorrect readings from the mobo and it was a big mistake to install it, that why i was concerned but in fact there has not been a problem at all, my original PSU is also working and i have directly plugged it in in the new wall socket made last night, so this is also an issue and my PC goes through direct connection without any ups or over-voltage protector adapter between.
my bios shows all readings normal in regards to voltages.
you can still come to Maldives with a good deal ;-) UK market is no. 1 here. will report back if any more problem arises, cheers mate

Don't tempt me. It sounds wonderful and is somewhere I have always wanted to go. Just have to check if Gigabyte has an office there  ;D

Glad you seem to have sorted it out and yes you do need to have the 12v connectors installed as well as the 24 pin.
