Title: The Baddest Board On The Planet!
Post by: Aussie Allan on May 23, 2011, 10:40:36 am

Sorry folks, ... Hasn't been made yet!... but through posts like this we might grab there attention and give us something truly worth trembling about!

I would love a board built to my own personal specs and I was thinking, what do other people want or dream about!... so put your ideas down here and you never know what might happen.

I'm sure other people would enjoy the read at the very least.

Start with a name for your board and what features you'd like included on your "Ultimate" platform........A brief description of the features would be good and what you'd be using it for.

And my wish list for a Photo-editing beast board.................

    * GA-Z90X-UD9- TARDIS......Release date 2013...........Pleeeeeeeease!

    * Dual Socket for CPU-With the ability to run one or two CPUs in a single or Dual channel configuration :o

    * Minimum of four PCI-X slots , two of which optimized for PCI-X based Drives ( RevoDrive x3)  that can be used for one or two PCI cards in single or Raid0 :o :o

NOTE! The X3 has yet to be released but the stats doing the rounds will be around the 1000MB/S read and 950 MB/S write for a single card that will be raid capable with garbage collection, no trim.

    * 4 to 6 Sata3 ports that actually work at Sata3

   * A True hardware Raid solution , even if it's a Gigabyte and / or partner Add-on card or on-board.

    * Board designed from the ground up for water cooling in mind

    * On-board Wireless out of the Box

*On-board WiFi out of the Box

    * one button clone backup

    * Bigger Option ROM space or even a Modular design allowing chip upgrade

   * Modular design on critical chips for at home hardware upgrades...... (Would be nice but not critical, could save Gigabyte a lot of RMA units)

what do you think......or do you have something better  ::)

Now that really surprises me!....... I thought people would have crashed the server to log there Ultimate motherboard spec......If Gigabyte don't know what we want.......they won't build it!..........Everyone has to have a dream!

"If man didn't have a dream"........."We'd still be courting Women with a rock club"!... ;)

"If man didn't have a dream"........."We'd still be courting Women with a rock club"!... ;)

I fail to see what is wrong with that  ???

I am sure that I can come up with something a little bit over the top given time to consider it. Does it matter if we can't afford to pay for it Allan ?  ;D

Money is no object.........In this country, that's what government and lottery grants are for! ;D

 AA

Update!........to be brutishly honest, if there WAS a M/board available with the specs I described above, I would seriously consider buying even at the £450 mark......wouldn't you ?

And Warwur......Du-co and Christmas lights are all well and good, but what really counts for me is under the bonnet! ........I Especially like the manikin with the black knickers....was trying to work out where the DVD door is ?

;D  and what's so bad about a rock club?  I'll have to think about this one.  Have you ever seen this site for innovative looking builds?  Scroll down to see some really outrageous case mods.

http://www.mnpctech.com/casemodblog/ (http://www.mnpctech.com/casemodblog/)

That actually wasn't the one I was looking for so I will keep looking.  While I was looking around though I thought that the board I want hasn't had the CPU made for it yet!   8)

After enjoying a RevoDrive X2 the last couple of month, I don't think I could go back to a SATA SSD for my OS..........Now I'm starting to ask myself the question....."Can you Raid two PCI slots with PCI based drives ?"..... this just might be the future for the OS drive and SSD for storage.

That had crossed my mind too. This is where you just wish you had the money to play around with some extra hardware. I suspect that it wouldn't be as easy as that though as the RevoX2 is already RAIDed.

Yes DM effectively 4 SSDs in raid0 on a single PCI slot..........But the grass is always greener over there!......2 PCI slots filled with Some RevoDrive X3s would get you 2000Mb/s write, and 2200+ read if they can be linked/raided......this would leave all Sata slots for storage/programs and optical................."I.T" WET DREAM!

Yes it is a wonderful thought but I am unsure about the feasability of running two seperate RAID arrays together as a single array. :-\

When you think about it, we already have been doing it for some time when we add a second Video card to our mother board !!  Different but similar!

Yes it is the way most manufacturers work. It is much cheaper than paying people to test  the components. ;)

Uh Oh...   So Miss Daisy99 which field are you speaking of, the one with the rock club, the manikin,  or having these two invent something new and different in the way of RAIDed SSD's in dual PCI lanes?

You are a bit of a worry War Yur  :-\

So how long have you had this fixation with manicans and blow up doll ?........and male or female ?

If your testing out the waters, I can a sure you my computer has all female connectors.

I'm sure Miss Daisy is expanding her mind with raid solution , mind you it would be pretty cool pressing a manicans bellybutton and watch the DVD door pop open! :o

Hey, You know I got to thinking about it and wasn't it you who made the reference to the manikin PC in the first place?  It was on that page though but quite a ways down the page.

I just thought you might need to find your own "case" so was helping you out.

As to MD99, I thought I "heard" a bit of sarcasm in her post.  I could be wrong.  MelissaDaisy99, inquiring minds want to know, were you speaking about PCI RAID or something else?

I found nothing offensive with Miss Daisy's response, but maybe we need to stick to the original subject to save people the dilemma of trying understand whether where talking about cutting edge computing or borderline ethnically correct computer cases, some may have trouble in understanding the humour in a pair of matched, black DVD knicker drives.

Oh NO.   I didn't  find ANYTHING offensive about what she posted.  I just thought that she picked up on the off color things we guys were talking about and was commenting to that. That is all I meant.  Her posts are very much welcome but I just thought that the way she said what she said that she was being a bit sarcastic and in this context with all the things we were speaking of it was IMHO very well placed for a young lady to say.

But you are right, perhaps we need to keep it on the tech side to a certain degree along with having fun of course.  If there was any offense MD99 please accept our humble apologies.  Mine was only an opinion and my opinions can always be proved wrong.

MissDaisy......a robot!...........I feel like I've been violated!...........must have been all that dirty, "T"600 talk that attracted her.

You know!...I started this post in the attempt to gain some insight into what the general populace of this cutting edge forum thought about what they envisage to be the futuristic motherboard we might see in the next decade.........

And what have we got so far ?

A spam-bot masquerading as a woman, ... A manikin masquerading as a PC case, ... and a discussion of the validity, viability and legal ramifications of using a rock clubs to court women. ::)

Come on guy's ... Where's the forward thinking geniuses that made this country great. :-X   or do we forget about letting the big boys know what WE really want......I still stand by my GA- Z90X- TARDIS at the head of the post......Whats your dream ?   ;)

I still dream of connecting Storage drives via Fibre Optic cables.
1. The cables would be much thinner and easier to hide
2. Speed of transfer should improve (of course this will depend on HDD manufacturer's getting their acts together)
3. Intel's lightpipe technology is moving forward so this is not an impossible dream.

Title: Re: The Baddest Board On The Planet!
Post by: Aussie Allan on June 09, 2011, 09:26:55 am

Absic the gos Guru ... do you have a heads up of when "LightPipe" is projected to go live matie ?..... never factored in optic in the TARDIS board....silly me!

quick discussion about it, ... Light is fast @ 186,000 Miles per second ,but electricity is slower right ? ... wrong!   ... same speed, ...what light (fibre optics) gives you is bandwidth..........Massive bandwidth!.........in fact light over fibre optic is slower then photons (electricity) on wire!......Why ?....because light slows down when going through things like water or glass, ... which is what fibre optic filament is made of.

Well that a load of usless Blo**y trivia...............but it is pretty interesting ;)......Has anyone out there used the fibre optic ports I see occasionally on equipment.and what has been your experience ?

I use the fibre optic ports for audio connectivity on my TV/audio setup. and have found it easier to connect and get right. 5.1 Dolby Digital for example, works faultlessly.

I also do a lot of audio recording and have fibre optic connections in some of my synths and other audio equipment. Never experience4 the sound issues, such as drop outs, crackling, rumble, that you can get from the traditional connection methods.

No idea when lightpipe will be coming online but an article I read recently seems to point towards some time next year (2012). Maybe then I will have to switch to the dark side of computing unless AMD can adopt it in their systems.

OBYAL Awaits your Arrival Luke!.... Interesting your experiences with faultless connectivity with no feedback with the signal or stuttering...

Funny thing is, and this is on the quiet, I use to be an AMD man myself, unlocked processors had a huge advantage for people like us just after the Big Bang!..... can't really remember exactly when I kicked Darth in the shins and went over to Inhell, but to be honest, I've never looked back.

If I am honest the only reason I stick with AMD is down to cost.  :'(

Still, onwards and upwards a new chipset coming along and new processors in a couple of months...... who knows, maybe the force will be with us on this one!  :-\

Very interesting Allan but now you are getting into the realms of "Electron Theory" and if you known anything about that you will know that it is not the electrons that move at all but the "holes" that move in the opposite direction making it seem as if the electons are flowing. This is why at this level power actually flows from negative to positive the opposite way to most peoples thinking. 8)

Just had a nasty thought....... and it is something I do not want to see...... EVER!

A motherboard that talks to you. Can you imagine, especially if they give it a female voice?
"What do you think you're doing? You can't stick that in there!"
"Now, have you REALLY read the User's Manual? You're not just saying you have, are you?"
"I don't like the colour!"
"Have you seen the dust in here? Stop playing around and do some proper cleaning!"
"You only love me because of my computing power."
"That's it, turn me on but you never finish properly."

and my favourite........
"My mother always said it wouldn't work out!"

I hope you can buy personality's too!........I'm calling mine "BENDER" ;D

I just realized I take mine for granted , tow years ago I started using Dragon (no not the wife) naturally speaking in earnest.... for word docs and such, now I'm starting to use some of the more advanced functions like surfing the net, opening/closing docs, printing, ect......the real gem is you use your hands as well as voice to do a lot more with very little effort.

Aussie Allan...........P.S Mother was not lost on me!........I can just imagine the notes coming home....

Two of your little USBs got into the power-board and ate all the fuses again
Sally laughed so hard she sparked her pants then shut down in the corner.
If you want your Mother-in board to USB sit in the future
I expect to see a firmware upgrade in there behaviour.
