Personally I would go for one of the Noctua Range as they are really good coolers and come with some excellent thermal paste.

I am using the NH-D14 and depending on the size of your case this would be my air cooler of choice across both AMD and Intel platforms.

I'm running an AMD processor and when I switched from the stock cooler I saw a vast improvement. You might like to look at this thread: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,1784.0.html as I go into a bit more detail there.

I would think so as it fits nicely in my NZXT Tempest Evo chassis without an issue. If you are worried Noctua also do a top down version of this cooler, which is still excellent but offers a bit more flexibility. Check here: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=37&lng=en This is the cooler my son has installed in his PC and he rates it very highly for both cooling and quietness.

I believe you should try to overclock the CPU with the megahalems first. If temperatures are good, then you won't need to bother upgrading.

That said, the NH is better by around 5C:
