Title: GA-M720-US3
Post by: zaragon1 on September 20, 2009, 11:01:08 pm
hello gigabyte mobo users

I tried a   GA-M720-US3 ver 1,  bios F2 with a AMD Phenom 9950BE , standard settings / windows xp / ati 4770 GPu /4 gig  corsair 6400 memory / sata 500 HD / standard drivers /

AMD Phenom X4 9950 2.6GHz Black Edition Socket AM2+ 125W 4MB L2 Cache (512KBx4) Retail Boxed Processor ,  and it wasn't stable - not my build as have built  at least 20 pc`s in the last 2 years !

I know this CPU is not on the Gigabyte approved CPU list , but the " older BE " 140 watt one is >

AMD   Phenom X4 9950   2600Mhz   512KBx4   2MB   Agena   65nm   B3   140W   4000   F2

( this cpu was only available as a black edition )

is this CPU able to be used with the motherboard via a bios update maybe , or only the  140 watt discontinued model ?

thanks and regards in advance

and I used all the components again ,but this time in a  GA-MA770-UD3 straight out of the box no bios update  ,which is shown as supporting the 9950BE 125watt edition , and  it all worked perfectly

AMD   Phenom X4 9950   2600Mhz   512KBx4   2MB   Agena   65nm   B3   140W   4000   FA
AMD   Phenom X4 9950   2600Mhz   512KBx4   2MB   Agena   65nm   B3   125W   4000   FA    ;D

therefore I`ll have to assume that the GA-M720-US3 ver 1 isn't capable of supporting the 125watt version , only the 140watt version

unless someone knows better that is  ::)

Your MB needs at least F3 version of BIOS to support it...

The latest is F6 but I have problem (from time to time LAN is showing "no cable") and I use F5 instead.
