Title: DDR2 slots 3 and 4 - M720 US3 Mobo
Post by: cookie365 on September 23, 2009, 10:09:55 pm
Just bought an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU cooler.

It looks like the cooler will fit over memory installed in slot 1, but will get in the way of installing or removing memory.

I have 2x 2GB DDR2s so is there any reason why I can't put them in slots 3 and 4?

The mobo guide recommends 1 and 2 but doesn't say why  :)

Thank you.

Everything should run okay in slots 3,4. They reccomend 1+2 as thats the primary. Although if the cooler still fits, I would be tempted to leave them in 1+2 then if you ever need to take them out, just remove the CPU cooler :)

Thank you Oggmonster.  :)

I've always tried to avoid changing the heatsink - my first PC was a Socket A so had lots of screwdriver divots next to the clips  :o

 ;)

Haha thats understandable, socket A was a pain to get off, if you use a screwdriver it was almost russian roulette to weather it slipped and damaged your hand/motherboard ;)

But the artic cooling 64 should be pretty easy to remove, think it has a little leaver on the side or something?

:) Yes, the Arctic should be OK - it looks like it has the standard clips and levers.
