Title: Dead 890GPA-UD3H Rev.2.0???
Post by: ali.ayam on August 13, 2011, 02:15:55 pm
My rigs :
PII X6-1055T @ 3.5 GHz (250x14) w/ 1.3v and Cooler Master Hyper 212+ HSF (Max temp. 52C)
Corsair Vengeance Black 2x4GB 1600C8 @ 1666 w/ 1.35v
HIS Radeon HD5850 @800/4500 (core/mem) w/ 1.0v
4x1TB WDC Blue
PSU Corsair VX550

My rigs runs fine with FF BIOS for about 6 months. Since I planned to upgrade to X8, I upgrade the BIOS with FGF. When I tried above setting, the computer won't start. Only hear 3 long beeps and 1 short beep. Clearing CMOS won't bring back my machine to life... what should I do instead of RMA it??? Any advice?

Hi there,

when you cleared CMOS did you do as the manual says or did you do an extended clear CMOS?

If you just followed the manual then I would advise that you try an extended clear and Dark Mantis explains the best way to do this here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,6335.msg49836.html#msg49836

It maybe better to leave it out overnight. I don't know why this works any better than the usual clear CMOS procedure but it does.

Hope it will get my motherboard back... I don't like this problems... With my old MA-770 UD3 I never had a problem...

Yes absic it is something that I can never rationally explain why it should make a difference. In theory once the power has completely drained that should be it and any time over and above that really shouldn't make any difference at all but there is no disputing that sometimes it does!

hello guy

To my knowledge it when to done a short cut (court-circuit) on the cmos pin
you clear the "dim data of the bios"

 :D

Sorry absic, that doesn't work. Still got 3 long beeps and 1 short beep, after extended Clear CMOS. Removing battery for more than 14 hours... sigh...

Generally any other beep codes than those listed are to do with memory faults. I think your next job should be to run Memtest.

Please follow these instructions exactly.

I would suggest that you download and run the latest version of  Memtest86+ to check your RAM first.

Memtest86+        http://www.memtest.org/

Insert one stick of memory in slot 1 and run Memtest on it for at least 10 complete loops/cycles and if there are no errors then swap it over with the next one and continue untill you have checked all  modules.

If you have any errors the module is faulty.

If you have any faulty modules you will have to return the whole kit as they are matched.

Post back when you have done that with the results.

While doing extended Clear CMOS, I've checked my RAM, and my 1055T on another board, and it runs fine.

Please do the test as I have described. It is far more copmprehensive than you just swapping them out and also tests the memory controller too. It does take some time but is worth doing.

I've checked my RAM using Memtest in H55 board and it runs fine after 2 hours of test. I've put my 1055T in my old MA770-UD3 and it runs fine. Whem I put them together in my 890GPA-UD3H, there's nothing but 3 long beeps and 1 short beeps.. nothing appears on my monitor, and it all happened after I upgraded BIOS from FF to FGF.

Hi again,

you can try and kick in the back-up BIOS

1. Turn off Computer by shutting down the PSU from the wall socket
2. Hold case power button in and turn on the power supply at the wall socket.
3. As soon as board shows signs of life turn power off at wall socket again.
4. Turn the power on at the wall again and then press the power button on the PC Case.

Now, I have to say that this procedure isn't always successful and you may have to try it several times before it works (it may not so don't be surprised) but, if it does work for you then you should get a message on the screen saying something like "Writing Backup BIOS to main BIOS DO NOT turn off the power" or something along those lines (sorry, I can't remeber exact wording). Once back-up bios has been copied you should be able to restart the PC and then enter BIOS to make changes as appropriate.

If this procedure does work remember that you will have the original BIOS back and, if you have upgraded your CPU, the original BIOS might not support it.

When you updated the BIOS did you use the @BIOS software or did you use QFlash?

@BIOS

Thought as much. It's too late now but for future reference it is always better to update the BIOS using the QFlash utility as it is a much safer method.

Please check your PM's as I have sent you a message.

Thanks absic for your reply... after considering I still covered by warranty, I decide to RMA this damn motherboard... huuuft... Hate this when it happened.... :(

As you are still covered by the warranty it is better to RMA the board and don't foget to tell Gigabyte that the BIOS got screwed when you updated using @BIOS.

I know this is very annoying but hopefully you'll soon be back up and running and don't forget to let us know how you get on.
