Title: GA-990FXA-UDX Latest Bios Warning
Post by: Mystikalrush on October 07, 2011, 06:44:51 pm
I just wanted to give those who own the latest 990fx series owners a heads up, i cannot confirm this on all the boards but the one i do own the UD3. I say this mostly because ALL 990fx boards today got an updated bios version with the same update but with different bios name versions of course.

Im my case the F5A for the UD3 i ran into a boot up issue once updated that would cause the system to hang just as the  " Loading Operating System " text would appear and a constant ticker next to it, this update seems to not want to get past this stage, hence not letting you boot up your OS. I easily reverted back to F4 and my system os booted up just fine as it has been.

Now this issue seems very new and i dont know if its al hard drives/configurations, but in my case i do have a RAID 0 Array as my boot drive. This could be specific with these types of configs or maybe any type of IDE/AHCI/RAID but as of now i know this only from my setup. So if anyone else runs into bootup issues that has updated let us know if yours went fine and if not keep the old F4 bios handy to revert.

Same problem on 990xa-ud3. Dowloaded and flashed the latest F9A bios and now I cannot boot from anything. No HDD,n o cd, no flash drives will boot. I tried flashing back to f3 and f8 using a flash drive and q-flash in the bios but I get "Bios ID Check Error". Doesn't this board have Duel Bios to prevent this stuff? Anyone know how to fix this? My $2000 rig is useless to me right now.

IIRC, it is a GB convention to mark beta-versions with a letter-suffix. Naturally, being a beta is no justification for bugs.

Exactly the same issue here, but I was able to flash it back to F4.

Two reports from Overclock.net

Just put in F6e on my UD7. No problems so far.

I just upgraded to the F6D BIOS and things are running great. :thumb: No issues here for the UD5.

It seems only the UD3 has this issue.

I also just had a problem when updating the BIOS, AMD went and told everyone to make sure they had the latest BIOS installed before Bulldozer is released, I have the GA-990XA-UD3 motherboard withe the F5 BIOS installed. I noticed I was lagging behind on the BIOS front so I installed the F9A (was top of the list so I assumed it was the latest) BIOS update was a success, I restarted the PC but when it got to the "Loading Operating system" screen the PC restarted, it did this a few times so I turn off and on, then instead of restarting, it would hang at the "Loading Operating System" page, I was able to flash to the previous F8 BIOS instead and everything is now fine, must Just be that F9A BIOS, Thank Gigabyte for the Q-Flash feature!

Hey guys.. just FYI. I was able to fix my board by using a smaller flash drive. Apparently my 16Gb flash drive didn't work Q-Flash but my little 1GB worked great. I was able to flash Bios F8 and the computer is running great(so Far). Just thought I would let you all know. Gigabyte should pull that F9A bios from the site for the 990XA-UD3 as it is definitely buggered up.  >:(

Quite often this is the case with bigger USB drives. For some reason QFlash/motherboard doesn't seem to see the larger drives at all but will happilly boot from a smaller flash drive.

I got my 990xa mobo with an unstable bios - not possible to save any changes; it just froze. Then I installed bios version 9a and it froze as reported in the Loading operating system message. Downgraded it to version 8 and it is running smoothly (1100T, Win7-64 bit). Wish Gigabyte would put some warning on version 9a and ...

I have this exact issue, 5A BIOS on Ga-990FXA-UD3, flashed using @BIOS (hey Gigabyte - if we're not supposed to use it, DON'T PROVIDE IT ON YOUR SITE), now I get "Loading Operating System" - and even though my DVD-drive shows up, I can't boot from it even if I hit F12 and select it.

So my problem...I can't get qFlash to detect my USB stick...? I flashed it as FAT32 and put the BIOS in the root directory, legacy USB is enabled...any ideas?

What is the point in having DUAL BIOS if the user can't manually select to use the other BIOS?

Bios F5B Has been released and fixes the issue, everything is now working fine with the updated BD bios.

You can kick in the backup BIOS by shutting down the PSU from the wall, then hold down your case power button in and then turn on the power supply button, a few seconds later the board will start, shut off the power supply then.   Then you can turn on the power supply again and power up the board normally and DualBIOS will kick in.

Or, if you can get to the website from another PC, just go back down to the F4 BIOS.

I had the same trouble -- Micro Center had just flashed the boards in preparation for the FX chips coming out last week, but I went for the Phenom II instead -- but it was fixed by reflashing to the F4 BIOS.
