Title: 2.8 GB/s data transfer
Post by: Dark Mantis on October 07, 2011, 08:12:51 pm
How do you fancy 2.8 GB/s ? That is some serious speed in anybody's book! OCZ have done it again with the Z-Drive. See the details here:

Thanks for that DM.

Just rebuilt my PC today after updating the Firmware on my ADATA SSD's and I was feeling pretty pleased with the read speeds I am getting from a RAID0 Array.

Oh well, back to the drawing board I guess.  :'(

Hi absic

Hey, pretty good speeds there none the less. I would suggest using ATTO though for those sorts of speeds and give you a better idea of how the drives function at every level. Anyway well done they are speeds to be proud of. 8)

Allan

There's really not much point in buying one of these Z-drives if you have to sell the rest of your hardware to buy it! They just don't do much on their own. :o

DM - Thanks for the advice but you really don't need to tell me this as you, more than anyone, should know that I try to be as thorough as I can be when testing hardware and software.  ;)

Here are the reamining tests using AS SSD and ATTO which I didn't have time to complete yesterday!

Hi absic and of course I didn't mean it like that. I know just how meticulous you are when you do any testing or reviewing. ;)

Some good results you are getting there though. You must be pleased with them.

Actually really pleased with read speeds but not so happy with write on these SSD's. I'm talking to ADATA about them, especially as an OCZ Vertex2 which is a SATA2 SSD has better write speeds on my system.  :o

Yes it always seems to be the write speeds that have problems and lag behind. The bigger the drive the less noticable but they are never anything like the read speeds.

  Hi Absic!

Your going down a path I think will give best bang for buck in the next 12 to 18 months ...... drive manufactures are going to hit a wall if they keep plugging 1000Mb/s plus  drives onto the market from 1,000 to 3,000 dollars US ..... It's a bloody recession for heavens sake.

I was very disappointed when OCZ cut the 100-120Gb revo 3 x2 opting for a 240Gb as the entry level Model ..... where talking of an average price of £600! ..... for 240Gb of storage! ..... sorry!, .... most people just don't have that sort of money ATM, ..... The reason why they got market penetration was with the Revo X2 ......which can be found for £250 ..... at that price, ....a lot of people will consider the outlay .... but at £550 .....not likely!

When you consider I've seen OCZ 60Gb Agility 3s, for £73 ..... so 4 of these adds up to less then £300 including shipping ..... run them in raid0 for a potential 2000Mb/s ..... bit of a no brainer really

Absic... I think DMs comment was a complement actually!  after all , your approaching and exceeding similar speeds as we have with the Revo's

Can't for the life of me work out why the reads and writes are miles apart but as you said ...."Work in progress" ... let me know when you crack it.....will save me a lot of time when my four drives get purchased in the next month or two.

When I spoke to ADATA it seems they don't have an AMD system for testing....WTF!!! I am amazed at how many major companies suffer from this. I know Intel is the leader but AMD have been around long enough to surely warrant a better approach.

Once again those of us on the AMD platform are playing second fiddle to Intel.

Yes I must admit I find this extremely perplexing. You would think that big companies would want to have some of the AMD market as well as the Intel. For sush a small outlay they could make a lot more profit in the long run.

What is needed is a dual Processor Board .....AMD and Intel on the same PCB :D

Well Crucial seem to be doing something right.

I did a little upgrade for my son using my old GA-890FXA-UD5 (rev 2.1) and a Crucial M4 128GB SSD (latest firmware) and got these results:

(http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/421/cdmspeedtest.th.png) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/21/cdmspeedtest.png/)

(http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/1548/attotest.th.png) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/853/attotest.png/)

(http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/4117/asssdtestr.th.png) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/221/asssdtestr.png/)

Write speeds are more along the lines of what I was expecting from the ADATA 511's.

Now that would be interesting. I am not sure I would want to try and get them to work together though! :o

Crucial are putting out some quality kit in the last year or so .... becoming a real player .... if i said 5 years ago OCZ or even Mushkin for that matter would be a force to be reckoned with ...... can you imagine the laughs I would have got......no one can be discounted now

DM!    I take back the idea of a dual boot AMD/Intel ..... there would still be arguments as to who booted up first :D

Then we'd have to deal with SLIFIRE Boards
