Title: Can i use Ext HDD to update bios Q-Flash?
Post by: captkirk on December 13, 2011, 08:29:14 am
Q-Flash won't work off my regular hard drive and i don't have a flash drive to update latest bios. Can i use my Seagate external USB HDD? I have already tried it once, saved bios to external ,then extracted it, but Q-Flash fails to see it when running program. It is also formatted in FAT32, why won't this work and am i missing something here?

Hi Captkirk,

To use Qflash it is advisable to use a pendrive, Sandisk Cruzer Edge 2gb, formatted to FAT32. The pendrive should be plugged into a USB header at the rear of your motherboard.

Uncheck / disable the "Keep DMI Data"

There is some more information here:

You should only update the BIOS if you need to.

Your external drive should work in theory but you would need to make sure that Legacy USB Devices and Legacy USB Storage are enabled in the BIOS first to give you the DOS drivers.

It would still be advisable to simply purchase a small, 2GB or so, USB pendrive. They are often useful and I am sure that you would find it money well spent. ;)
