Post by: david419 on January 17, 2012, 08:57:34 pm
hi i have a ga-k8n51pvmt gigabyte board which i have bought secondhand, i have tried with xp and windows 7 but cant get none of the 4 usb ports to work, i have tried the settings in the bios, cmos clearing, uninstalling in device manager everything. they still wont work and sometimes say usb device is not recognized and malfuntioned,

any ideas or is it a common fault and need a new board?

Hi and welcome.

This is the trouble with buying second hand boards, or anything else for that matter. You never know if they are working properly.

I suspect that this is why the board was sold in the first place. All I can suggest is to make sure that you are testing the rear panel USB ports not the front ones and make sure that you have all the drivers installed and updated. XP was more of a problem with USB but if Win7 isn't working either it sounds more drastic.

Pull the CPU & check for missing pins - OR a short in 1 of the ports.
