Title: 970A-D3 / Phenom II X4 960t core unlocking
Post by: hellbringer on February 11, 2012, 06:05:16 pm
Has anyone on here been able to successfully unlock the two extra cores to a Hexacore? I do see the " CPU UNLOCK"  feature in the BIOS, and saw a video on youtube with a successful demonstration on a  990FXA-UD3 (with the same BIOS layout).

Thanks to anyone who replies! :D

yes but just because it works for one doesnt mean it will work on another cpu chip.

Regardless if it is a Black Edition  :'(

Additional info: It was my understanding that the non black edition 960t's had varied results of unlocking the two extra cores. On the other hand, if you had a black edition 960t with a MB that gad unlocking capabilities........... then you are good?

Had that same processor and didnt have a problem unlocking it and yes it was the black edition.  Now that doesnt mean they will all unlock as each chip has the other 2 core disabled for a reason  of varying degrees.  Brandon built that chip into a gigabyte mb and his wouldnt unlock and for giggles and grins and just plain because i wanted to know i had him bring it over here and put into the board that unlocked it before and his still would not unlock.

So alot of search and alot of careful reading i have found out what i stated above besides my own personal experiance.

I appreciate your feedback autotech. Yeah, with a little more reasearch, I did find cases that the BE 960t didn't unlock. Not a deal breaker though. Yesterday I got a combo deal at micro center............. the 960t and an mATX MB for $125. I am planning on doing a HTPC build for my gf. I'm going to swap out the 830 Deneb with the 960t for me. Nonetheless it would be a modest upgrade from what is already a great chip. If it unlocks that would just be a bonus.

It depends much on the stepping of the cpu... i've got a 960t since dec 11 and when enabling on auto the unlocking core function my pc doesn't boot or bsod but when setting this function on manual, i've succeeded in unlocking the 5th core but not the 6th..as i've been obliged to desactivate then activate one by one each core except the core"0" which cannot been desactivate...so it means that this 6th core can be unlocked but is not stable and make to my pc bsod or prevents my oc to boot up !!
