Title: My new computer unable to play Shogun because of BIOS?
Post by: Exclipse123 on March 30, 2012, 07:12:43 pm
I recently purchased a new computer and the first thing i did was update everything then i installed my steam games Shogun 2 first. I did not have any problems before my new computer with the game but now with the new system it crashes at the copyright screen and reboots my computer straight away i've had numerous help from the Shogun support forums and i still am. They suggested updating my BIOS but i could not successfully do that along with the hotfixes they suggested.

You can see my shogun 2 support thread here : http://forums.totalwar.com/showthread.php/36068-Unable-to-start-Shogun-2-(Stuck-at-Installing-FlashSecurity)?p=323074#post323074

I can provide my DXDIAG information below.

- I have been told the problem is related to the BIOS and Processor?  I purchased my computer from UKOVERCLOCKERS.
- I have updated drivers to most recent aswell as DirectX , Framework etc.

Let me know if you need any further information on my system.

Hi there,

what Revision is your motherboard as there are 3 versions? You can find the revision number printed on the lower left hand edge of the motherboard or on the product label on the box if you still have it.

Also, which BIOS version are you currently running? You can check this by going to the BIOS home screen and pressing the F9 key which opens a sub menu with this detail.

Bare with me a moment i have the box still i just need to find it :p , I can't take out my pc as it's quite heavy and took awhile just to fit in the desk.

I can see on the box it says GiGABYTE 78LMT-S2p (Socket AM3 +) but i can't locate the Revision number.

I found manaul and inside it says (REV:4001) if that is what your requiring. I can look at my BIOS version now i'll restart my PC

Ok i got my Bios version and some extra details if you need

BIOS version : MAIN: FB
BIOS DATE : 10/17/2011

You are probably going to have to look on the motherboard itself for the revision number as the 4001 you referred to is the manual not the board. It will be printed in white letters down the bottom left hand side of the board near the expansion slots.

Ok i just looked and saw and it says REV: 4.0. I hope i did locate the correct part of the motherboard your seeking it was in white text so i assume it is.

Yes that's right. Here is the page you need for all things to do with your motherboard's revision.

http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4028&dl=1#ov

You can download the newest BIOS file and flash that from there. Use QFlash though not @BIOS as it often bricks boards.

I have to do something so i'll try this in a few mins. I just tried downloading the FB BIOS update and when i launch i get an error

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64bit) version of the program, and then  contact software publisher.

Im probably doing something wrong correct, I extracted it to my desktop im not very good at using this kind of software. I'll retry when i have time in about 30mins or so. I'll let you know when im back. Thankyou for your help so far.

Hi there,

when you download the BIOS file it comes as a 7Zip compressed file. You need to extract the files before you can do anything with them. If you are not sure about flashing BIOS then check our FAQ here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2441.msg13929.html#msg13929 where we go through the necessary steps.

Hi,
You could try to get to safe mode by pushing F8 just before windows loading bar appears. Then try to restore Your system to a date when Your pc runned OK. You could also check a hard drive options in BIOS, is it IDE or AHCI. I think it should be IDE
Title: Re: My new computer unable to play Shogun because of BIOS?

Yes you could try to return your system to a previous restore point or just wipe it with a clean Windows installation.

Try to download this
 http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/BIOS/mb_bios_ga-78lmt-s2p_v.4.0_fc.exe
Then extract it to a usb memory and follow the instructions.
Title: Re: My new computer unable to play Shogun because of BIOS?

When you update the BIOS you will have ot make sure that any changes you made to the BIOS before updating are restored.
The "Missing Operating System" message is usually because the SATA controller has changed from AHCI to IDE or vice versa orthe HDD BOOT order has changed.

Well its up to You :) Shogun 2 is one of the games that need the BIOS update( other games : Portal 2, Deus Ex...)
Also sometimes windows FX fixes helped but mostly it is required to have the newest BIOS

PS You can check the BIOS version in a program named CPU-Z

Also check here http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=8400.0
Theres a FDalpha bios that You can get from Gigabyte support

Ok , seems like that alpha build seems to think that i have a 2.8ghz proccessor and i actually bought this pc with 4.2ghz processor is this just a visual throwoff? or is my processor actually degraded itself lol.

There is no 4.2Ghz processor. What they meant was that they had used a 2.8Ghz or whatever and overclocked it to run at 4.2Ghz instead. Problem is that if the BIOS gets corrupted or anything it will be overwritten by the normal Backup BIOS and the settings will go back to standard.

Try downloading and running this little utility that will give you accurate and even more data than you are looking for at present. It is called CPU-Z and is available from here for free:

http://www.cpuid.com/
