Title: GA-M720-US3 -- How do I access backup BIOS
Post by: BlueWolf on April 14, 2012, 11:53:44 am
Hi there,
I've had the motherboard for 3 years now...great and very happy.   With the driver disk was an application (face something or other) which allows you to alter the boot image.  Never used it till now...just reinstalled OS...been running fine for about 4 days...I thought "what the hell I'll put a funky biohazard badge for bootscreen"....loaded the bitmap into the face??application andhit auto....it rewrote (flashed) the bios....I saved and rebooted...and nothing happened.   Nothing....apart from CPU fan and power light...nothing...I've jumpered the Cmos reset jumper...taken the bios battery out for a minute or so....
When does the backup bios kick in??

Cheers
:)

you have a tricky situation.  On my old Gigabyte board that I borked had two removable BIOS chips, but yours are soldered in.

I did a google and lsdmeasap had a fix:

http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/33904-how-fix-dead-dual-bios-motherboard-if-flashing-failed.html#post315830

it requires shorting pind 5 and 6 to force a copy as the auto feature doesn't always detect bad BIOS every time.

Good luck

ps.  don't forget to follow the link in that post for more detailed information.

Hi

The "fix" suggested in the previous post is not advised as a general rule. It is far too dangerous.

The normal accepted way of getting the Backup BIOS to kick in and overwrite the Main BIOS is by doing this :

You can kick in the backup BIOS by shutting down the PSU from the wall, then hold down your case power button in and then turn on the power supply button, a few seconds later the board will start, shut off the power supply then.   Then you can turn on the power supply again and power up the board normally and DualBIOS will kick in.

Fully sick thanks oh Dark Mantis...now I don't need to upgrade to a Z77chipset motherboard with IvyBridge 3d transistor technology...

Cheers
:)

I owe you about 150 beers (at around $3 each)

Glad to be of service...even if it did stop you having to upgrade  ;)
