Title: GA-Z77X-UD3H VIA USB 3 root hub won't start code 10
Post by: Cutthroat on May 04, 2012, 02:28:13 am
According to the motherboard manual I was supposed to plug USB devices into the Intel USB ports before installing the driver for the VIA VL800 USB controller in Windows 7 x64, but apparently I was wrong about which ports those were and installed the driver with a device plugged into a port.  Now the VIA USB 3 root hub driver won't start, displays code 10.  I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver, the newest version from the Gigabyte website, with no USB devices plugged in.  And I have tried uninstalling the driver, rebooting and disabling the VIA USB controller in the bios, rebooting then re-enabling the USB controlller and starting again, nothing is working, the device shows an exclamation point and says it can't start (code 10).

What can I do to get this driver installed correctly so I have more than 2 USB 3.0 ports?

i think i did the same as you, installed driver without plunging into the usb. got around it by reinstalling the driver (setup.exe) then going into device manager and right click, update device driver, hit search it found the drivers and installed them, hope that helps

I'm having the exact same issue and I can't get any of the back USB 3.0 ports working. This is extremely frustrating.

Hi and welcome.

I would suggest that if you haven't installed a great many programs etc that to do a clean sweep and format the drive and re-instal Windows from scratch. That way you are sure to clear all residue of the original  setup and start over.

Personally I haven't ever messed about with this type of thing to instal the drivers anyway. It has always just been a case of run the setup program and then check the system out. I can't see why the Via hub should be any different.

I think I will try that first, since this is actually my second day after getting this new system and setting it all up, so my system is indeed still pretty clean and reinstalling windows should not be too big a hassle. Thanks for the suggestion, I will follow up on whether or not it fixes the problem.

EDIT: Just wanted to say I reinstalled Windows and went straight to installing the drivers without ever having anything in any of the USB3.0 ports prior to that. I used a front USB2.0 for my mouse and keyboard until the drivers were all installed, and somehow this time it worked out fine.

Thanks Dark Mantis!

No problem, glad to be able to help.  Often the simple aproach works. ;)

I had the same problem, the VIA USB3 ports worked until windows was installed.  I also had a code 10.   I just completed flashing the BIOS to version F8 and this corrected the problem.  All of my devices are now working properly.

Often a BIOS upgrade will cure this type of problem if it is actually down to a BIOS issue rather than just a failure of the way it has been setup. Especially with motherboards that are newly released as there often bugs in the system.

I updated to the F8 BIOS and now the VIA USB 3.0 ports are working without having to reinstall the driver.  Thanks for the help. ;D

That is good to hear. More often than not a BIOS update will help on these newer boards.
