Title: The "Fn" key does not work.
Post by: RainLover on May 18, 2012, 06:51:32 am
I recently purchased 3 Laptops. Gigabyte 2532.

The Fn key works on one machine but not on the other two.

Is there something in the setup I missed or is there a special combination of keys I need to turn this feature on.

When I press the Fn key on one Machine I get a Menu at the bottom of the screen.

The other two, nothing.

The only thing I am running which is non standard is a second screen.

I am using Windows 7 64 Bit.

Hi and welcome.

The only thing I can advise is that you make sure that all the machines are running the latest BIOS available.

They are all new Machines.

So I am not playing with the BIOS. That could void my warranty.

They may be new computers but that doesn't mean that they have the latest BIOSes in them. More oftren than not a new motherboard or computer will be sold with an out of date BIOS. Don't worry though, flashing the BIOS doesn't void your warranty. It is something we recommend members to do many times every day. Just make sure that you download the correct version and then use QFlash to run the update. On the QFlash homepage untick the box for Keep DMI Data.

Well you might as well consider looking at the recent changes and updates you had running just so you could rule out that it is not caused by a recent software update you applied on your system.  Id that does not solve that, you can try listening to the keys through an online application or right it on your own through Java  or whatever programming language you are suited to.

Sorry for not writing back.

I discovered I needed that disk that comes with the note book to be installed.

Once I did that all problems fixed.

Thank you for the advice.
