Title: What do they do?

Hi,
After some discussion on this forum I RMA'd my mobo back to my retailer who in turn sent it on to the distributor for warranty service.
Can anyone give me a rough idea of what goes on once a mobo is returned for warranty service. Do they thoroughly check out the board or simply update the bios as a panacea.

they try repair if failed they replace..  atm gigabyte is making poor  strenght motherboards they  "explode" too often . dont buy gigabyte next time

Hi

I can't speak for your local Gigabyte office/service centre but in the UK they are very fasidious. The motherboard is checked, repaired and then checked again overall. I know this because I had a board returned to them myself and had this discussion with their head of Returns Department (RMA). They even kept it for for testing for an extra day to make sure that there was no other problem.

Hi Dark Mantis,
Back again. The reason I asked this was because when I returned my board the local retailer said that if they found the same/other problems they would send it on to the distributor for checking/repair. They did send it on so I figured they saw the same problem as I was having. The board was away a total of 7 weeks and returned to me with an updated bios, F6 to F10 and no other information supplied. However, the original "Delayed Write Failed" issue still remains. In fact, it occurs more often now than when I first sent it away and the retailer is reluctant to look at it again so I'm  at a bit of a loss as to what to do next. I suppose I could try a Live cd approach to see if I can isolate  the annoyance myself, just didn't think that I would have to be my own tech support.

Hi

I would always suggest trying to faultfind yourself for two reasons. One is that you learn more about your system that way and secondly because the more you know when going back to the shop/company the better armed you are. If you can have a fair idea of the problem with answers to any questions they might put to you, you will be in a far better position to argue your case.

It does sound like a very lengthy RMA though but often they don't give much info on what was done. I would suggest asking for a written rundown of the repairs before sending it away. The updated BIOS is not unusual though and is to be expected if it was an older version originally.
