Hello everyone i am looking go get a new motherboard. i currently have a GA-MA790GP-UD4H which i 4 years old, i would like to continue with a Gigabyte MB, but not exclusive. i have a AMD quad core 965BE CPU. and 4Gigs RAM, i would like to continue to use the CPU in the new MB, until i can afford to get a 6 or 8 Core CPU. and increase my RAM to 8 Gigs, any ideas on what i should be looking at, and what would be the best cost effective MB to get,

Is there something wrong with the one you have now or you just want a new path for CPU upgrades ,like getting the new Bulldozer ?!
-
Hello again, No. the one i have now has done a fantastic job, but i feel its time to upgrade the MB. i am limited to the RAM speed of only 1200, ( i believe)
and i would like to use more RAM, and faster CPU, but i would like the path to be able to use the older CPU, until i am able to get the new CPU.
Thanks in Advance.

Most probable any RAM amount you throw at this time in the one you have will work .
Now ,to use the CPU you have and keep yourself up to date you can simply get an AM3 + motherboard based on the 9xx chipsets.
Practically something like a 9xx -UD3 (UD3 and up) should be ok ,being able to feed that CPU due to good VRM-s and allowing you to upgrade in the future to the new Bulldozers.
If you want crossfire or SLI get 990 chipset based ones , if you are ok with one video card 970A-UD3 should be good enough value wise.

I thought my MB could only take memory up to 1066 ?
i will not be doing SLI or crossfire, but i do also need a new Graphics card, but thats later down the road, currently on the 260 series .
and the 970A-UD3 will be able to support the FX-8140 (4.1 GHz/3.2 GHz) CPU ? if and when it comes out?

I would highly recommend any of the GA-990FXA boards. I have a GA-990FXA UD5 and Iv OC my x6 1100t to 4.ghz with a touch of vcore increase and it runs buttery smooth. If you are looking for a CPU wait until AMD comes out with the second gen FX cpu. It is suppose to be 10 to 15 percent faster than the original. I am waiting until they work out all the bugs and issue with the FX Bulldozer.

Hello again i have been looking at the reviews for the GA-990FX UD3 board and they seem very decent for what i want, but what the difference between the UD3 and the GA-990FXA UD5, since i wont be doing any SLI or Crossfire. yes i am also waiting for the next gen FX CPU, but until they come out i have to use my 965BE, which i believe would work with both UD3 and UD5 MB's ?
Thanks in advance.

They should be good enough ,choose the one that does what you want for the money you have.More UD "stars" , more overclocking abilities ,if i am not mistaking.
The CPU support list should show you that your CPU is supported.

Basically the UD3 gives you two x16 PCI express lane, the UD5 gives you the option to scale three video cards at x16/x8/x8 max or two at 16x max. Yes a AM3 CPU will work with a AM3+ sockets including the 990FXA series boards and this how i have my setup for know. The GA-990FXA UD7 gives you quad SLI support which runs at x16/x8/x4/x4

Hello again i think i will go with the GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 1.1) http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3996#sp

You will probably have to call them. I would think revision 1.0 from what it says.
