MB: GB 970A-UD3 - What is the difference between rev1.0 and 3.0
« on: November 03, 2012, 08:10:19 pm »
Hi all,

I'm looking to find a new mobo for my new FX 8320. After some googling and researching I found that GB 970A-UD3  will best fit for my needs - cheap, best OC potential, no SLI support and so on.

But I found that there are at least 2 revisions for this MB - 1.0 and 3.0. May somebody explain me what is the difference? I only found that for 1.0 I'll have to update the bios in order to support the new Visheras.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the gigabyte Forums i will help with what i can and if you wait for absic or dark mantis to reply i am sure they have more information than i do.

Only difference as in cpus is the rev. 3 supports 1 more bulldozier chip than rev.1 Also///
rev. 3
Doesnt say it has touch bios and if you are not using a touch screen then it doesnt matter,  Now personal experiance is get rev. 3, If i am buying a new motherboard i get the newest rev. out there for as they go thru revisions they work earlier bugs out or just make improvment in design on the board itself. Mine is a revision 1 and it has 2 differences in the 2 and 3 rev.

1 is rev.3 handles AM3+ chips and in rev. 2 it has a chip less on the board than rev. 1 does as has to be a reason for it.

10x 4 the quick replay. So it seems that there are significant differences between these revisions and it is definitely better to buy 3.0.

I'm not in a hurry. I can wait for week or two. Moreover in Bulgaria our sellers have only 1.0 in their price lists ... It seems that 3.0 is very new, because even in newegg or amazon.com only 1.0 is listed.

If anyone else may provide mi more info ... please enjoy.

Thanks.

I too want the rev 3.0 board because it has the UEFI bios chip. But I have only found rev 1.1 and 1.2 in the stores and online. How do I get the rev 3.0 board?

You wait for the resellers to finish the older ones stocks :)
I doubt the EFI one is better in hardware aspects.

The VIA sound is not a prove that the newer ones are better.I think the VIA sound chip is cheaper than the Realtek board version 1.0  had ,so maybe to put EFI in it means lower quality in some aspects , on-board sound being one of them.Version 1.1 and 1.2 feature the LLC though ,feature which may help in overclocking they say.
If your stores have return policies as we have in Romania you can very well get it and use it for some days and see if you like it.

Your post holds absolutely zero meaning to me. What you "doubt" is of no consequence. I do not care if they improve the hardware. I am fine with the configuration other than wanting the UEFI chip - which is simply added in a vacant spot. Nor will I be using the on-board sound. And the return policy in Romania adds NOTHING to this discussion. I did ask for information about the existence of the rev 3.0 boards. If any consumer has one. If any retailers are selling them, etc. Your input has been disregarded.
