H87-D3H Slow USB 3.0 on Front

H87-D3H Slow USB 3.0 on Front

Hi all

Recently I have D.I.Y an machine with GA-H87-D3H motherboard. However, I am experiencing intermittent issue with USB 3.0 on front port (attached to chassis). In the beginning the speed is high, and drop to 0MB/s and went up again. Up and down. The USB 3.0 on the rear is working fine, consistent high speed around 80MB/s.

I would like to ask is there any current driver / BIOS bugs that causes this? Or is there any workaround to this problem.

Hi PeterTWJ,

Welcome to forum,

What is your exact model of case?
Have you a Hub USB on front case?

Sometime a quality of cable between USB port on front case and connection on motherboard ... the cable are not quite thick ... so the signal is bad...

But I am not sure, in your situation, if this a cause of problem....

What is a drivers or software have you  installed about USB?

I wait more infos about your situation and hardware....

CoolerMaster Centurion 6 Silver.
Yes, 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 port

The connection from the casing to the motherboard seems just right.

I just installed the Intel Chipset and iRST. and USB 3.0 using Intel xHCI which I downloaded from Gigabyte.

*Additional note: The 2nd USB 3.0 recognize other device, but does not recognize my Seagate 500GB USB3 HDD. The 1st USB 3.0 port works for all device tested.

If you have Win 7...  have you installled Service Pack One ?
If no... install SP1...

Windows 8 with Hotfix installed. The rear USB 3.0 port is not affected, only 2 front port connected to the case were affected.

I tried something, I played a music from my USB 3.0 HDD, then I try to copy a large file. Within seconds, my music file cannot continue to play and the speed will dropped to very low or even 0MB/s within seconds.

BIOS and driver updated. USB Locker not enabled.

By the way, my USB 3.0 HDD works on the rear USB 3.0 port and my laptop with USB 3.0 port.

Is this a hardware or software issue?
