Problem shutting down computer.
« on: August 13, 2015, 07:07:38 am »
Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1 running on AMD FX-8350 and Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, vers, 4.0 BIOS F2 and Radeon R7-240.

New build about 3 weeks old. At first it ran OK. Then occasionally when I shut down or restart it would get to the "Shutting down..." screen with the spinning ring and just stay there. The ring eventually stops spinning but the computer never turns off. I can turn it off with the power button and as long as I wait until the ring stops spinning, Windows will restart normally as if it had been shutdown properly.

I used msconfig.exe to see if any services were causing the problem: Turn off half; shut down; if still a problem, turn off half of remaining services; etc. Eventually I would find a service or two to turn off and solve the problem. But this was only temporary and eventually the problem would return. Repeating the process I'd find a different combination of services to turn off. But this was always just a temporary fix and the problem would return.

I've run memory and HD tests but found no problems. Also tried Restoring the it back to when it seemed to be OK but the problem persists. Also tried reseating the RAM, Graphics Card and CPU but no luck.

Could this be a MB or BIOS problem?

I assume you do not overclock anything?

Can be a bad/old USB device relating to selective suspend issues maybe.
Sleeping/wake up system working properly? (if not check for latest drivers)

Nothing is overclocked. Not having any problem with USB devices but later today I'll try selectively disconnecting them to see if they have any effect on the problem.

I don't use the sleep/wake system.

I have not updated the BIOS as F2 is the latest version.

Tried selectively removing USB devices one at a time but the problem persists.

Also cleared CMOS and reset BIOS to defaults but no change.

It seems almost every time I make a change the computer will shut down normally a couple of times but then the problem returns. Sometimes even when I make no changes the problem goes away only to return after a couple of successful shut downs.

Correction: In my first post I said the MB was vers. 4.0. Actually it is 4.1.

SUCCESS!!

Problem turned out to be a corrupted EasyTune6 program! Once I got it uninstalled (took some doing) the shut down problem went away.
