Yes it would be worth a try, nothing lost.

Well, gave it a try, and yes I did remember to clear the CMOS and restore from optimised defaults , alas no difference, I shall proceed and arrange an RMA.

Thanks for your help, you confirmed what I already suspected and feel more confident that when arranging for a RMA, I have explored all options possible.
