GA-890GPA-UD3H New Build - No Video
« on: December 03, 2010, 11:51:28 pm »
My second try with this board. I RMAed the first one. The second one is doing exactly the same as the first - it growls (beep?) once on power up, cooler fan spins but NEVER any video. The HD/power LED also blinks once every 3 seconds.

This build I never even tried to put it in the case. It is on a piece of cardboard. One memory stick. 24 pin and 8 pin power. CPU and cooler. Front panel connectors (power LED, speaker, etc). USB keyboard.

I tried 2 NVIDIA based graphics cards in each PCI-E slot. Both DVI and D-SUB. Nothing. (The display works fine from my laptop but always says there is no signal when connected to the 890GPA).

I also tried the on-board D-Sub and DVI. Nothing.

So a couple of questions:

(1) If there is no graphics card inserted - is the MB supposed to display on the on-board connectors?
(2) Could the memory be bad? It is new and I have no way to test it - I assume I could not get the 1 growl if the memory was bad.
(3) Is there some switch, kick in the butt or other thing I am missing?

It seems difficult to believe that I could get 2 different boards with the same NO VIDEO problem. I must be doing something wrong.

Suggestions?

If you see my post titled "no video" I had the same problem as you did and I got it to show after I had removed all memory except 4GB, and kept 1 Hard drive and 2 dvd/cd rom drives.  I now see the start up logo screen etc, but now it just loops.

Before I selected Y for the SATA Mode Message it asked me to insert the boot drive.  I didnt do this and restarted and now it just reboots without bringing this message again to load the boot drive.

So hopefully you fare better than I after removing some drives/memory.  I also used the analog connection instead of the DVI.

Yes I did see your post. Thought they might be related - but:

My system is already at the minimum. Only 1 memory stick (4 Gb), video card and keyboard. No hard drives, no mouse, no DVD, nothing.

Still no video at all. Now I am not even getting the 1 growl from the speaker (the wire was so tight I might have pulled it louse - still checking that).

My only new components for this system were the MB and memory.

Thanks for the reply.

I would double check all the power connections carefully. It only needs one pin to be loose to have a problem.

Does your motherboard BIOS version support the procesor you have installed?

Thanks - I will check the power connections again.

The question about the BIOS supporting the processor is what I was thinking about last night before going to sleep. Where on the board is the BIOS revision? (Since I can not get into the BIOS to find it there)>

In any case I have an older Alathon 64 (5400+) CPU that should be supported - I will try that.

Thanks.

Hi,

your rev 2.1 Motherboard should support the 1090T out of the box.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Solved!

Yes my processor is supported. Yes power pins are in. BUT the video card was not.

This board just a bit lower than my other board. With this board the flange on the end of the video card hits (and indents) the cardboard I had the MB on. I know you are not supposed to make the MB uneven - BUT YOU HAVE TO. So putting a bit of non-conducting riser allowed the video card to be fully inserted and the durn thing POSTed and I was able to get to the BIOS setup screen.

Now to get my old RAID 1 set up (I know - a new install).

Thanks for all your help guys!

No problem. Next time make sure that you install a buzzer as that would have alerted you to the fact that your GPU wasn't fitted correctly in the first place.  ;)
