Hello everyone, my question is: Is there any way to have the system check the raid array disks after os boot in the background instead of before boot? My system:
CM HAF 922
GIGABYTE 890GPA-UD3H Rev 2.0 bios rev FF
PHENOM 2 X6 1090t BE oc @ 3.6
ANTEC TPQ-850W
CORSAIR H70
60 gb CORSAIR FORCE ssd
4- 320 gb SAMSUNG F4 raid0
2- GIGABYTE HD6850 crossfire
4 -CORSAIR 9cas 2 gb strips 1600/1.65v running @1333/1.5v 6-8-8-21
Win7 ultimate 64 bit

Do you mean to check if the RAID is ok or to check the disks themselves are ok ?

If you are asking about getting rid of the delay during POST/BOOT where the system seems to hang whilst the RAID array is initialised and checked prior to the OS Loading then I have to say I haven't found a way around this.

Yes I exactly mean the delay between post and boot, altho my system dosn't seem to hang, it displays a screen...AMD raid option rom ver.xxx.xx checking disks...then the status...functional w/ size...then option to enter into raid manager. Kind of sucks since the whole reason I put the OS on the ssd was to rock boottime. I was hoping that because the os is not on the array there might be a way to boot first. I would just let it sleep all the time(and never boot), if I could but the raid array also will not allow sleep to s1 or s3. I asked Gigabyte thru the tech support mail (they really suck.. nothing ever helpful,) just one line response " It should work with a clean install".. DUH. I tried that...Anyways THANKS and any more input would be wonderfull.

Yes, I guess hang was the wrong word to use but it seems to describe best what's happening.

When I first put my current build together I set up a RAID0 array and thought there was a major problem because the screen went black and there was a small white cursor flashing in the top left hand corner for at least 10 seconds before moving on. Then it would say that it was reading the RAID BIOS chip and sit there for about another 20 seconds before finally loading the OS.

As I stated earlier, as far as I am aware there is no way around this and it is one of the more annoying features of Gigabyte AMD motherboards. Why we can't get some of the quick start features seen on boards by other makers is beyond me!

I don't use sleep mode on my PC so haven't encountered your particular problem.

I know it may be a dumb question but have you checked the Power Options in Windows 7? A lot of sleep issues are caused by these. Also, ATI have included Power Settings in the latest releases of their drivers which tend to over-ride the Windows settings so might be worth checking there too.

I assume from your setup that you are using the SATA3 ports for your RAID Array. Although I don't have your particular motherboard, mine also uses the same AMD SB850 chip for the SATA3 and if you don't get a useful response within a couple of days I can reconfigure my system in an effort to try and help further.

I have no problem entering nor recovering from S1, S3 or S5 sleep with my Raid 1 setup. In fact, the BIOS the board came with had S3 set as the default and it worked perfectly (unlike my old MSI board).

Just a quick update on this thread.

Having heard from Stewwmann it would appear that the problem was due to software rather than a hardware issue. It took him two days of disabling drivers and various devices to get the system to sleep and he tried so many different things that he can't say exactly what was the cause.
