P55A-UD3R: Speedstep doesn't work if I overclock

When I run my CPU (i5 760) at stock settings, it happily winds down the multiplier and the core voltage when the system isn't doing much.

As soon as I try to change the bus speed from the BIOS, this Speedstep (or whatever it's called these days) stops working, and the multiplier remains fixed.

Is this by design? Is there anything I can do to retain it?  My system is stable to at least 4.4GHz with the right settings, but it also runs 24x7, so I don't want to waste more power than I need to.  I'd like to bump up the FSB a bit but still have the system reduce the multiplier and voltage when it's lightly loaded.

I'm not changing anything other than the bus speed. Everything else is on auto.

I'm using F10 BIOS. Is it likely that F12 will change this behaviour? (I presume not as it only mentions CPU and memory compatibility in the release notes for F11 and F12).

It is something that has been happening all the way through the BIOS updates and I am not sure if it is supposed to be a "feature" but kicks in at a certain level. I doubt that F12 will make any difference but that has nothing to do with it not being listed. They never have a lot to say about what the update is fixing and you just have to guess.
