Z68X-UD3R-B3 Compatibility with Corsiar Force 3 120gb Sata 3 SSD?
« on: September 12, 2011, 09:30:19 am »
Hi. I would like to set up the Intel Smart Response Tech. on this board and I'm interested in the Corsiar Force 3 120gb Sata 3 SSD (CSSD-F120GB3-BK). Can anyone tell me whether this will work okay on this board? It's not on the compatibility list but I'm hoping someone has used it, or knows about its compatibility?

Thanks

Hi

I can't say for certain whether it is compatible but I wouldn't worry just because it doesn't appear on the list as many drives are not tested or come out after the list was compiled.

Yep, works okay. Successfully linked and accelerated to max setting...don't see 4 times the disk speed although. Not that  I've tested before and after. I've linked the SSD on the Intel 3gbs sata, with 2x3g Raptors in Raid 0. WEI reads their speed at a disappointing 5.9 before and after the SSD inclusion.

On my other system - X58A-UD9, my 2 6g Raptors - attached to the Intel 3g sata port - retrieve a 6.2 WEI rating. I would have attached them to the Marvell 6g, but this set up suffered screen freezes and mouse 'stutters', so I dropped it back to the Intel 3g sata connection.

On the aforementioned system, I could place 2 6g Raptors in the Intel 6g Sata port, but of course that would leave me one short for the SSD.

You should try disconnecting your Raptors and running the WEI test again just to see what your SSD would score on it's own. Don't forget to make sure that your SSD is using AHCI mode in the BIOS as it is much faster than IDE mode.

How do I disconnect my Raptors with an active operating system on them?

I have set up the Raptors with a 16k format. The SSD is running on 128k format. I'm not sure where in the bios I can set it up for AHCI mode? I have the Extreme Hard Drive enabled and the PCH Sata control mode is Raid XHD.

I'm not sure whether this is normal for this mobo, but even with Quick Boot enabled, in boot, it shows the 'loading operating system' for quite some time...ie, the dots slowly progress and takes around 8-10 secs. Once it hits Starting Windows, it's quite fast getting to the log in screen, however once I enter a password, it takes around 10-12 secs, followed by a black screen for around 5 secs before windows actually opens.

I only have this on this system. Could be a bad driver, or perhaps I've set things up in a poor way.

Thanks

Firstly it would make far more sense having the operating system on your SSD as it is the fastest drive you own.  Besides that you can always use a Linux Live cd to boot if you just want a temporary fix for testing.
