HD6970 no signal to monitor

HD6970 no signal to monitor
« on: October 15, 2011, 09:30:54 am »
I just recieved my HD6970 to replace a HD4870. After installation and computer start up....no signal to the monitor. The fans on the card spin...green lights come on, but no signal to my monitor. The monitor light changes to blue... then back to orange and the message 'no signal'. I have both the 6pin and 8pin power connectors attached, I have used both of the DVI connectors on card, I have removed card and reinstalled, I have tried another monitor...and nothing works. I put my 4870 back in...all is perfect. My PSU is new..Antec 25 650w ATX12v V2.3 Bronze. Intel DX58SO and current bios. I7-960 processor. 8g Corsair XMS3. Windows 7 SP1 64bit. Gateway HD2401 24" monitor DVI. I tried a friends HD 6770 and it works fine. Anybody have any suggestions?

Hi and welcome.

The first thing that I would try is another data cable. You are not using an adapter are you ?

Next have a look at the BIOS swich on the card and make sure it is set to 1 but you can always try position 2 to see if it will allow you to boot properly.

Ok...tried another cable and no change. No, I am not using an adapter. Also, I can see no bios switch. During a Google search...one poster with a 6970 said a 650watt power supply was not big enough. What are your thoughts?

Personally I would have said a 650W was enough for one of these cards as long as you haven't got masses of other components all vying for power.

I am RMA the card. The last try with it, my son in law heard the beeps from the MB....(I have terrible hearing). Two beeps..pause..two beeps. "video not detected". End of story...now the wait for the replacement  :(  Thanks for all your effort  :)
