How do I gain easy access to my USB 3 port with my P67A-UD3-B3?

Hi guys!

Hope all is well with you!

Ok, I realize my P67A-UD3-B3 has the USB 3 capabilities.  I just ordered my first USB 3 device:

It is a CORSAIR Survivor 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSV3-16GB.

I am asking questions as to how I might easily access the USB 3 port on the 67A-UD3-B3.

I do not want to sound or appear lazy, but dropping to my knees and reaching behind the computer to access the USB 3 slot every time I need to use it seems so prehistoric if you know what I mean!

I was thinking of purchasing a USB 3 panel like this one:

SilverStone FP36B Aluminum front panel 2X USB 3.0 ports with 3.5" to 2X 2.5" bay converter device.

But is there an easier or more logical method in which I many have easy access to my USB 3 port?

Does any manufacturer sell a female USB 3 port that I can simply attach to the front or side of my HAF 932 and then plug it into the MB?  I do not mind cutting/modifying my HAF 932 [my new cordless Dremel Tool is just itching to get to work]!  Must I purchase a massive USB 3 front panel to solve this challenge?  I prefer to leave as many front panel slots open for ventilation as possible.

Looking for some good ideas gentlemen.  I simply would like to have easy access to a USB 3 port.

Anyone have any good pics?

DM, please do not suggest I stand on my head and use a remote controlled helicopter to ferry the USB 3 extension cable to the top of my desk every time I use it...I already tried that and cut my finger on the helicopter rotor blades and got a bad head ache too...and besides, it was way too loud!

I really don't know what you are implying there but if you are sure that you don't want an easy option then.......

I too have just purchased my first USB3.0 device. It is only a desktop hot swap drive bay but it shows the difference in performance between USB2.0 and USB3.0 performance wise. Much nicer to use.

By the way I hope that you took advantage of the pre price rise and bought a container load of hard drives. Now the price for a 1TB has gone from £39 the other day when I grabbed a couple to £109 now. I knew they were going to be rising in price but I was shocked at how much.

Anyway back on track, I know you said that you didn't want to  fill a front panel but I disagree because sooon you are going to be using a lot of these upgraded ports and one available isn't going to be enough. If you can get a front panel drive bay device that has six or eight ports available I reckon it would be a good idea.

Regarding the helicopter...just trying to put a giggle and a smile on your face dear friend.

Ok, front panel it is...or perhaps even a USB 3 hub.

There are only two USB 3 ports on the back of the MB and no USB 3 headers on it.

I may need to look at a new MB that has more USB 3 capabilities.

Although this MB has been working flawlessly, it has received absolutely terrible reviews at NE.

Any suggestions on a new MB?

Suggestions for a new motherboard, now let me think.......it would have to be an X79 board  for certain!!!  Due out next week along with the new Intel CPUs. This is going to be the next power users board and takes over from the X58 series. Quad memory controller plus other new goodies. It will be slightly cut down to start with to enable getting it to market on time but apart from a few less SATA ports etc it should be fine.

If you have the bankroll this is the one to go for.

I liked the idea of the helicopter but could never get the working upside down bit properly!

Thanks for the important info...wow, a new release from Intel.  Is this the Ivy Bridge people have been talking about?  Any idea on the pricing yet?

Perhaps there will be some great deals on this combo for our upcoming black friday.  I will keep my eyes open.

  something like this would fit the bill ....there's plenty of variants out there......This one PCI-E.....wicked amount of speed for sure.....ebay motor should have them....and cheaper then ripoff UK
