Z77-UD5H / i5 - 3570K (PC shuts down after waking up from SLEEP)

Hey All!

Just built brand new system, installed new bios i think its F7, running Z77-UD5H /Intel i5 - 3570K with an 4.2Ghz stable OC, everything is awesome.

One annoying issue though~! When i put PC to sleep or it goes to sleep on its own, when i try to wake it with mouse or Keyboard... the systems comes up all the fans spin for a while and then it shuts down, and kinda tries to start again but turns off in the end.

When i turn it back on - its sitting at the lock screen in windows like none happened, no systems errors, or unexpected shut-down messages are reported...

Once again, all the new drivers seem to be installed, new bios f7, and i even tried playing with "AC Back" power feature in BIOS setting it to Always off/on/memory same thing :(

Any suggestions , good people of internets?

Just wanted to add some more information to this post:

- I am not sure if that matters at all, but my Windows installed without using UEFI partition, where i chose just normal MBR way.
- When i was setting up hard drive i chose IDE option unless windows would not want to install on it

+ F4 default BIOS which mobo ships with is extremely unstable (keeps feezing up).

I've had issues like that when overclocking, it stoped at code 15, try going back to stock speed and see if it happens then.

I tired older BIOS - F4, that could barely even make into windows.
Tried "optimized defaults" in F7  bios - same issue happens.

Now i am thinking maybe i need to try to switch HD sata controller to AHCI mode, and or try to install windows in UFEI mode again, and see if there is any difference.

Any one thinks - maybe clearing CMOS is worth giving a shot... would i be able to restore my saved to USB drive BIOS profile with OC after?

Hi

Firstly I assume that you actually have the motherboard model no GA-Z77X-UD5H and the other was just a typo.

If I am correct then your board must have BIOS F6 or above to support this 3570K processor. If you have loaded any prior to this version then your chip is no longer supported and you would need a supported CPU to reflash the BIOS back to F6 or more.

This is why you have had problems since the beginning.

Yes, I do have the GA-Z77X-UD5H, my apologies!

Thanks for info above, I will try the newest official BIOS. I am just wondering why do I not see it in DL section for my board - latest one i see is F8c   3.62 MB   2012/05/18?

Once again thx~! I will report with findings.

Installed new F8 - looks stable, and even saw an improvement, PHC temp went from 58C  to 37C, which is very pleasant surprise.

Although, I am still having issue with with PC not coming back from Sleep properly in windows, tried with optimized def. on F8.
Putting it to sleep, everything is fine - when waking on keyboard, it seems like its trying to but not enough power is provided to mobo, fans are kind of spinning up, little sequence counter is not coming on the motherboard, and it just shuts down. When manually powering back up - it tried to "kind of" come up again, and on the second try boots up.

I observed the same, right after the BIOS was flushed to the newer - reset the PC and it didn't come back up on the first try, rather tried to with slowly spinning fans, and booted up on second try.

If anyone is having the same issue let me know, since maybe its just my unlucky config. (This never happens on regular restart / power on/off)

Firstly I am still unsure if you have updated the BIOS properly if you used the 3570K CPU because the board doesn't support it until F6. I know it seems to have worked, and maybe it has, but it shouldn't. It is possible that it is failed to run the update totally and hence the problem??  :-\

This is where the BIOS should be available although there are other places too:

Sleep issues are common if anything isn't 100% working properly. Try checking everything involved and make sure there are no other issues.

"I am still unsure if you have updated the BIOS properly" : Well, I did have issues updating from F4 (stock) to F7, since it kept hanging while as you mentioned it did not support my CPU (did I have any other choice?) - from there I had 0 issues except "sleep mode".
Now, I had updated from F7 to F8 just as described in manual, via QFlash, and it worked perfectly.

Is there anything I am missing - the proper way, do I need to go from F4 to F6? I mean, I am glad to try anything.

I had double checked all the connections, unplugged / reseated the memory, and went through motherboard's manual numerous times.

Normally if you are in a position where you have a motherboard with an unsupported processor you would follow one of two routes. The first option is to take the motherboard to a local shop that would be able to update the BIOS for you or the second which would be to beg, borrow or steal or maybe even buy a supported CPU and use that to run the BIOS upgrade. If your CPU is not supported it is quite possible for it to compromise any data that it comes into contact with.

I hope that has clarified what I was saying.  ;)

Little Update!

Just got a response from Gigabyte Support rep on this issue:

"Dear Customer,

If you attempt to resume the system via the power switch was it able to resume properly?"

I Had tried that and it worked! ...PC comes back just fine. I had posted results just waiting on the verdict.
Wonder if its the UBS bus drivers that are at fault here in this combination...

Anyway just interesting fact if some one is having the same issue.

So this is apparently the cause as we were able to find out from Gigabyte support after all:

"It does not support resuming from USB off an S3 standby mode when all power are cut off. If fan remains on it should be under S1 standby state and will allow for it to be resume via usb."

I was looking for an option to switch betwwen S3/ S1 states in bios but was unable to find any at this point.
Wonder if this will be added later on.

At least I feel at peace now, knowing nothing is wrong with my PC.

Hopefully this will be useful info for some.
