GA-Z77X-UD3H - back panel usb ports
« on: August 13, 2012, 12:45:52 pm »
Hi,
i know that the rear panel have 6 ports 2 of which are handled by the intel chip and the remaining 4 by the via one.
my issue is related to the ports that are 'assigned' for keyboard and mouse: the top ones

if i enter the w7 recovery console (i have a genuine pro version) both mouse (logitech m100) and keyboard (logitech k120) turn off, i'm forced to use the lower of front case panel ports

same thing happen if i try and load at boot an usb drive to (example: to reinstall windows)
the usb drive turn off and the installation screen ask for missing files

i've used the default bios (f8 if i remember correctly) updated to F11 once available then beta F12l and beta F13

is this normal or it's just a faulty board?can someone with an UD3H confirm?

regards

Hi

There are no ports that are "assigned" for keyboard and mouse, it really dosn't matter. The ports you are using are USB3.0 ports and so won't work until the proper drivers are loaded. This also means that they won't work before Windows loads the drivers or you enable DOS drivers from the BIOS by enabling Legacy USB Devices.

I always advise people to use a PS2 keyboard for BIOS work as it is much more responsive and reliable.
