GA-Z68X-UD3-B3: Utilities help needed
« on: September 13, 2012, 04:03:24 pm »
I have recently built a new desktop PC and i am very happy with it however i would like to use some of the utilities such as the quickboot but when i turned that on it wouldnt allow windows to load (it got to the windows loading screen then went to a black/grey screen); what have i done wrong?.

Heres my pc spec incase you need it to help:

GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 revision 1.0 (i think bios is F2-let me know if thats the wrong thing)
Intel i-5 2500k (stock heatsink)
2x4GB (8GB) Corsair Vengeance RAM
WD 500GB HDD
OCZ ZS 650w PSU
HD 7770 GPU
Windows 7 OEM 64-bit

Also im planning on adding a SSD soon, so my other question is about the smart response technology: If i get a 120GB SSD and use 64GB for the smart response (i think is the maximum) can i put windows 7 on the remaining space?

On Point 1 - I assume now you've removed "Quickboot" normal service has resumed?

On Point 2 - The idea of Smart Response is that you can virtually strap an SSD onto the back of a regular hard disk. To be honest, you'd be better leaving them as separate drives, and putting Windows 7 onto your SSD, and then the rest of your programs onto your other drive(s).

I have:

1 x 60gb SSD for Windows 7 and a FEW games
4 x 500gb regular hard disks for the rest of my programs, music, documents, backups etc...

yes i have removed it but would be interested in why it wouldnt work for me.

point2: ok, thats the general opinion from most i have spoken with so i think i will be leaving them seperate and i'll reinstall windows 7 onto the SSD since its a very new build and nothing will be lost.

Do you have a link to the Quickboot utility so I can check it out?

I have never tried quick boot or any of the other 'Utilities' that come with the board as they tend to be buggy at best. Maybe things have gotten better in recent times but I like to steer clear from them.

+1 in regards to getting a SSD for you OS........That will speed boot times but 100!
