GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI with INTEL Core I7-3930K and 64 GB RAM

Hi all,

I intend to replace my old PC. The 64 GB RAM is mandatory for me (I will use the machine as a test environment with a few VM’s on it – 10 – 12 VMs).
My question is related to memory model / brand.
I was thinking to go with:

• GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI (motherboard) http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4287#sp
• INTEL Core I7-3930K (CPU) http://ark.intel.com/products/63697/Intel-Core-i7-3930K-Processor-12M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz
• 2 x Kingston KHX16C9T2K4/32 HyperX Predator http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KHX16C9T2K4_32.pdf

It should work, right?
I am asking this because I checked the recommended memory list for this motherboard and I didn’t saw the HyperX Predator there (or a configuration I can go with up to 64 GB) http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-x79s-up5-wifi.pdf.
I checked also on the Kingston site the recommended modules for GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI, but I found this http://www.kingston.com/en/memory/search?DeviceType=7&Mfr=GIG&Line=GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI&Model=79195 (no KHX16C9T2K4/32 HyperX Predator in the list).

So, my main questions:
1. Should work fine with 2 x Kingston KHX16C9T2K4/32 HyperX Predator? The official lists can be outdated, but from specification point of view, it will work?
2. Did any of you put 64 GB on a GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI? If yes, what type of memory?
3. Any tips for the proposed configuration (in terms of overclocking, or in general … tips)?

PS: I am pointing to KHX16C9T2K4/32 because it has CL9. The Kingston 32 GB recommended for this motherboard is KVR16E11K4/32 – but is Value RAM and it has CL11.

I would go with what is on list i dont think both sites would be wrong but you can email tech assist at Gigabyte and see what they say and email kingston also just to be sure.
Last resort order what you want just make sure that you can return it for a full refund if they dont work.

The reason I didn’t contact the official support is because I am afraid they will just follow the official lists and if the official lists are outdated … I will get a “No, it will not work”. I can also go wrong with this assumption, but I will try it (maybe there will be someone who will do the test and probably update the compatible memory list).

I found on another forum someone else who intended to go with 64 GB (something like G.Skill Ripjaws X 2133Mhz). He did not confirmed yet the setup.

I confirm. It is working OK with 64 GB. The configuration I have now is:

I recommend this configuration. No issues found.

I joined this forum specifically for this thread.

I'm running a GA-X79-UP4 with Intel i7 3930 and 8x8 (64GB) of RAM and an HD7870.

RAM I'm running:

(I bought 4 sets - Quad Channel works fine)

the RAM doesn't overclock well, but it hits its rated speed (1866) in XMP Profile 1 (had to burn in first). This doesn't prevent the CPU from overclocking though.

My RAM wasn't on the recommended list, but it works fine. Actually, my processor is Prime95 Torture testing right now with 4Ghz (100x40 w/ 1:1 @ 1.3v) it's been testing for about an hour and hasn't skipped a beat.

I installed Server 2012 on my rig for the same purpose: virtual machines ... I run 4 x 120GB Kingston Hyper X 3K's in RAID0 on a HighPoint 2720SGL card and this computer is amazing...

The predecessor (which I'm using to type this up while the new PC torture tests) is a Q9450 w/ 8GB RAM, stock clock, 2 x 1TB Black's and an HD4870

Here's a screenshot (keep in mind the torture test is running, that's why the temps are ~90C), and with that said - a word of advice: get a REALLY good cooling solution (look at benchmarks for air coolers and stay away from sealed liquid coolers)
