Bulldozer on GA-870A-UD3 (rev 3.0) ??

Hello to everybody on the forum, especially the experts :D
After inquiring about this issue on another topic I've decided to create my own, as it can be useful for other people as well.

This was my original post/question:
Quote
My board (ga-870a-ud3) is 3.0 and I have the latest bios (downloaded from 3.1 page - FEf) and I was wondering what would happen if I put an FX processor there. I'm aware of the different layout, but it seems that some of those processors could easily fit into the am3 socket.

Thanks and cheers
btw member Vezina helped me with understanding certain things so I would like to thank him for that.  :)

Searhing the forum I have found some interesting infromation (topic,5116.0.html), specifically:
I have also been informed today that users of the Rev 3.0 motherboards will be able to use BIOS for the rev 3.1 boards to allow them to run the new AM3+ processors, when they come along but with some limitation, mainly with temperature detection.

And I can confirm this, I'm using FEf bios on my 3.0 board and have succesfully installed this version on the backup bios chip as well (alt + f12 method)!!! But I don't have an FX processor to try it myself, and I wouldn't risk buying until I know 100%.
And yes, 3.0 version comes with 2 x 16 Mbit bios chips.

So basically, all I need is someone to confirm that it works fine (absic, if you could write more details it would be cool), 'cause eventhough GB confirmed it to this member, when I asked them through support they didn't even mention it! Only said some bulls*** that I already knew and suggested I buy a 990 board... -.- which is strange, cause the bios was already available to download.

Good question when i looked at the CPU support list it only list the first bios and no other CPU's.  It seems weird that gigabyte hasnt updated the cpu support list for the latest beta bios. To me if it isnt on the support list i dont use it.

Maybe they simply forgot? It is two years since that thread...

Like we said from here onwards the only way you're gonna know for sure is to try it.

However, since newer processors have came out (and I believe we are in Piledriver - which is newer than Bulldozer!) you would need to make sure you have a Bulldozer  processor. Check this site for more details: http://www.cpu-world.com/ and I would estimate that the CPU supported list remains at just that ie no piledrivers, but maybe a handful of bulldozer processors (I havent actually read the CPU list but thats what Im guessing is there)

So, in short: Congrats on getting the BIOS to work, it sounds like from the old post it will work with an old bulldozer but like you I wouldnt invest in a piledriver and thats where you have to be really careful. Use that site I linked to and make sure a processor you get is what people claim it to be. I dont think anyone would be willing to send you a processor just for this (and going by your post in this thread, I believe thats what youre really asking for), but at the same time stranger things have happened.
Nothing to see here, move along....

Only the first generation is supported (FX 81xx, 61xx, 41xx), and I' fine with that because my current proc is x3 455@3.8 Ghz, so it would be cool to put the 6100 there, easy OC, I think it would be a nice boost. (Phenom II 1055T and other six-cores are hard to find here where I live, and the price is the same, if not higher!)

And another interesting thing is, the beta bios (FEf) was only available on the 3.1 download page and recently gigabyte added it to the 3.0 download section, wasn't there before. So they had to have a reason to do that, maybe they tested some cpus and it worked.

I'm not looking for someone to send it to me, I will find someone in my community to lend it to me, just a matter of time :D
