740G micro atx: trying to setup dual vga
« on: August 29, 2010, 10:19:44 pm »
I've had this setup for a few days, so I'm still trying to get everything right.  My main monitor is going through the vga on a PNY nvidia 240gt pci-e, and I'm trying to get it to recognize the second monitor through the onboard vga (ati radeon 2100?).  I'm running Windows 7 32-bit, I can use either monitor when I boot, but I can never see the second monitor once it is booted.  Ie: I boot on the onboard monitor and I cant see the pci-e monitor and when I boot with the pci-e as my main I can't see the onboard monitor.  I can't really spend any more money for a few more weeks, since I just did a major upgrade, so please don't tell me to buy another card or a dvi/vga adapter.

Sorry but you won't be able to get the Nvidia card running alongside the ATI on-board Video. It's an either or situation I'm afraid. If you really wanted to use the on-board graphics with a PCIE Graphics card it will only work with an ATI version.

If you want to run dual monitors why can't you do it from the PNY 240 GT Card?  If your second monitor is VGA all you will need is a DVI-VGA adaptor.

the problem with buying an adapter is that I'm going to have to wait a couple weeks.  I just spent over $300 on upgrades, and immediately after that my job cut back my hours, so I have to re-examine my finances...

thanks for the reply anyway.

The motherboard will only normally only offer the same options 1 X DVI 1 X VGA

Maybe we are talking at crossed purposes here, but this is the kind of adaptor that I'm talking about: http://www.amazon.co.uk/DVI-DVI-D-Adapter-Convertor-HDTV/dp/B003K3060I. It will allow you to use the DVI port on the graphics card for a monitor that has a D-Sub VGA connector. As you can see these are not so expensive and you usually get one supplied with your graphics card.

If this is not what you need, if you could post back with more details it would help.
