Z77X-UD3H Not Loading USB 3.0 External Drive

Z77X-UD3H Not Loading USB 3.0 External Drive
« on: August 15, 2015, 10:46:00 pm »
When I start my system my Seagate GoFlex drive does not power up or load when connected to one of the USB 3.0 ports on this board. I have to manually disconnect and reconnect the drive every time I go into Windows. Is there a known way to fix this?

This is likely a BIOS setting.

What OS are you running?

What rev of the board and what BIOS version are you running?

What USB settings are you using in BIOS?  Have you performed any troubleshooting steps?

I've done a lot of troubleshooting and research but I can't find a solution. I'm running Windows 7 with revision 1.2 of the board's drivers. The BIOS is American Megatrends and the version is F20e from January 2014. Gigabyte hasn't released an update for it. I have both the Intel and VIA USB drivers installed. If I connect the drive to one of the USB 2.0 ports on the front of the system it will start normally but give me a Windows message that 'this device could perform faster,' etc. It works fine when connected to one of the many USB 3.0 ports but it just won't startup with the system or Windows.

Greetings,
Have you experimented with xHCI settings?   Being that win7 doesn't have native xHCI support pre boot.

Rev 1.2?
I know F20e is on Tweaktown, but that doesn't mean it will work.

BIOS Rev F20e is offered for Rev 1.1.  Have you tried FA or FBb.  Certainly worth a try.

According to the Gigabyte site FBb has the same date as F20e, but I tried it anyway. It says it's incompatible with my version of Windows. It must only exist for 32-bit systems. I also tried all the xHCI settings but nothing made a difference. After starting Windows, when I unplug the drive so that I can reconnect it Windows plays the sound of a disconnecting USB device, so it obviously knows it's there. It just won't load it until I manually disconnect and reconnect.
