I have a new build with a GA-B150M-D3H, Rev. 1 and an i5-6500. On initial boot attempt, I get five POST beeps.
The old AMI BIOS beep codes say that 5 beeps means CPU failure. A current list of UEFI codes from AMI shows "No Console Input or Output Devices are found."
I won't go through the static and handling precautions I took but I'm confident I caused no CPU damage. For the second possibility above both input and output devices are known good from other computers.
Question 1: Is a bad CPU the most likely problem? This is, I think, my 11th build over 15 years and never had a bad CPU before. I've tried re-seating, visual inspection, compressed air, etc. Both the chip and the socket look perfect.
Question 2: Is there a way to determine whether the problem lies with the CPU or with the motherboard? I don't have a PCI checkpoint card (POST card).
Thanks for any information or advice.
