GA Z170X UD3 is smaller than normal
« on: January 29, 2017, 10:54:02 pm »
Hello, before the question, here's the build I want to make:
I7 6700K
Galax 1070 EXOC SNPR
G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8gb 2800 MHz CAS 15 (F4-2800C15D-16GVRB)
Noctua NH-U14S
EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2, 550W

For the motherboard I hesitate between GA Z170X UD3 http://www.gigabyte.com/fileupload/product/2/5499/20150722180610_big.png
and GA Z170X Ultra Gaming http://www.gigabyte.com/fileupload/product/2/5808/20160530155556_big.png

I like the fact the UD3 have ALC1150 audio codec, no flashy LEDs and digit panel for error. In the opposite Ultra Gaming have only ALC892 audio codec, no digit panel and lot of LEDs (even if I can disable them) but it's newer so maybe better components

Now my question: The dimensions of the Z170X UD3 are smaller than a normal motherboard like the Z170X Ultra gaming as you can see on pictures, it forces us to aim only 6 screws and not 9. the right side is not screwed and all the weight of the components are suport by only 6 screws.
With the weight of the components that I listed above there is a risk for the motherboard in time? (Noctua U14S weighs 935g with the fan) This is the only problem I see for this motherboard and why I hesitate to buy it.

Thanks for your attention

I wouldn't be concerned.  Mount the board securely using all of the mounting holes and stand-offs.  The 3 less screws shouldn't pose any problem even with the larger cooler.
