GA-MA790FX-DQ6 - Wake from PME not working
« on: February 06, 2010, 02:28:21 am »
Hi guys.
Trying to get this board to wake from PME event. However, when machine is in standby the LAN adaptor is also disabled.
In BIOS i have :
PME Event wake enabled

In Windows i have :
Allow this device to bring computer out standby enabled using magic packet

Anyone here successful in doing this ?

Thanks   8)

Any luck?
I have a different motherboard but can make Wake on LAN to work.
I have enabled the same PME event on bios but when the computer is shut down, I don't see any LED activity on the NIC.

I think zeek that it depends on the type of sleep the machine is in as to whether there is any action showing on the lanport.

When you type of sleep, what do you mean?
Sleep - Hybernation - Shut Down.
What I understand, if the WOL feature is enabled, when the computer goes to sleep or is even turned off, there is still power going to the NIC, and I should be able to see LED activity if the NIC is connecting to a router, or I should be able to see the router's LED ON on that port. Otherwise, if there is no power going to the NIC it will be imposible to turn the computer on via WOL.

As long as you have a power supply that supports it the NIC should be in a "ready state" but that doesn't mean it has to show any lights. The router should show the connection to the computer as long as it is plugged in.

so you are saying, if there is power going to the NIC because WOL is enabled and you have a supported PS, there shouldn't be any LED ON on the motherboard integrated NIC or sign?

I don't think so. I just tried on my system and there was no led on. I am however running a different board to you.

You looked for LED activity at your integrated NIC with WOL enabled and your computer shut down?
Have your tried to wake up the computer via WOL to make sure your WOL /NIC is working?

What I know
The NIC jack has two LEDs. One tells you if there is traffic or not (Activity) the other one tells you (if there is no connection between computer and hub - LED OFF) (If there is a connection between computer and hub = STEADY ON) (If reverse polarity = Flashing)

I agree with your summise and no I haven't actually tried waking it by magic packet but apart from that there was no led on. All I can say is that on my board there was no led but the connection led on the router was still lit.

ok so i figured it out.
Yes, when WOL is enabled and the computer is off, there is NO signs on the NIC (NO LED ON) but it actually works.
In myscenario only works internally, since I've tried to do it over the internbet and didn;t work. Maybe my router does not support magic packets.
Thanks for all you replies.
