ex58-ud5 warning leds - one of them is red
« on: August 12, 2010, 11:35:03 pm »
I am getting a red led for the voltage CPU warning lights even though I am on auto for all the settings - it correctly detected my i7 930 clock ratio etc.
I have looked on the Intel web-site but I am not sure what setting I have to change to get this warning light to disappear. It says on the web-site that the VID Voltage range is 0.8 - 1.375v. My vcore voltage is well within this range - assuming this is the correct setting.

Also I have issues with booting and I am assuming it is something to do with this. Well I wanted to try it out and find out.
Sometimes it resets itself when I turn the machine on and it takes 2/3 tries before it stays on permanently - other times it get to the boot screen and freezes.

Firstly are you sure it is the red voltage warning light, as these are very close to each other and easy to mix up?  I would advise checking that the CPU is seated correctly and with thermal paste on the heatsink/fan unit. Also make sure the heatsink is securely fastened down on all four corners.
Can you list all your hardware and OS please?

Thanks, I was getting confused my voltage warning lights with CPU overheating ones. I had not fitted the CPU fan correctly - so once I did this the warning light went away.

Hopefully this might solve my booting problems too.

Thanks very much.

You're welcome. It is not an uncommon problem with the stock heatsinks and those LEDs are so close together. 8)
