UD5H-BK - "No boot media" message on start up.
« on: January 05, 2015, 12:13:27 pm »
Hi,

Just built a new system based on the UD5H-BK using a I7-490 processor, 16GB of Crucial memory,  a Samsung SSD, also got another hard drive and a LG DVD writer fitted.

I've got Windows 7 installed - which was from an upgrade disc so had to use a workaround involving a registry hack (se earlier post of mine).

Everything had been working fine, starting up with no problems, but for the last few days it's been refusing to start-up but come up with a "no boot media" message. I then have to restart and go into BIOS where the SSD is shown as the first boot option, so I just do "F10" and it then starts fine! Now it's playing up a bit more in that it takes me 5 or 6 attempts to get the BIOS screen showing  - pressing the Del key doesn't work and have to keep switching off and retrying.

Coupled with that, I've had a few BSD's which (using nisoft blue screen viewer) is down to "ntoskrnl.exe+75bc0. Not sure if this is related, just mentioning it for completeness.

My hunch is that something in Windows is giving an incorrect boot order, but not really sure how to go about fixing it. Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

Alchad

PS I updated BIOS yesterday to version 6, but problem was happening on old version and now this new version.

Edit - looks like my hunch was correct, just got program to show me the boot manager set up

Windows Boot Manager

So basically boot manager seems to be pointing to my other hard drive "G" - question is how do I change!!

Just another update in case anyone comes up with a similar problem. I managed to modify the boot manager using a freeware program called "visualBCD" . Did it with a bit of trepidation, but it seemed to have done the job and PC now starts normally.
