Intel Duo Core 2 upgrade
« on: April 19, 2011, 08:06:35 pm »
I have an Intel Duo Core 2, Conroe, 65nm, 2.66ghz, on my mobo. I want to change cpu's and put in an Intel  Duo Core 2 Wolfdale, 3.3ghx(BX80570E8600); 45nm.  As far as  I know, the 45nm will fit in the socket, but will a 45nm, run on my  GA-965p-ds3-s3; ver. 3.3 with Bios F14??? Thanks.

Hi

According to the chart it will fit and be supported but not officially from BIOS F14 as long as you have the revision 3.3 board.

Going from a 2.66ghz core 2 duo to a 3.33ghz core to duo is not going to give you a great performance increase and imo wouldn't be worth it. You're going to pay a fair ammount of money and not really gain much.
Is there a specific area you feel your machine is running slow? You might even be able to overclock your current CPU to 3ghz+ (depending on how clockable the 965 boards are)
There's no place like ::1

Had a e6750 that could easily do 3.2 oc,but it would not oc like my e8400 ( 3.8-4.0 oc)
Depending on how much you can oc the C2DUO, might want to save up and upgradeto 1155 or 1156.
