GA-890GPA-UD3H 1600mhz ram Crucial Ballistix 8-8-8-24 will it work?

Hi i just bought 2x2gb of 1600mhz ram Crucial Ballistix 8-8-8-24 will it work it runs at 1.5v stock. The part number is BLT2CP2G3D1608DT1TX0CEU

Also if not, what could i overclock the timeings to at 1333mhz and will i notice a difference from normal 1333mhz unbranded CL9 ram?

Hi there,

a lot will depend on which CPU you are using as this has a major bearing when it come to running RAM above 1333MHz.

If you could post back with that and your other system information it would help to guide you in the right direction.

If you could post back with that and your other system information it would help to guide you in the right direction.

Which revision is your motherboard?
What BIOS version are you running?
What other hardware (hard drives, graphics card etc.) do you have installed?

I know these things may not seem relevant but the more information you give the better understanding other users who are trying to help will have of your system.

Basically, with your CPU I would recommend that you run at 1333MHz and try to tighten the timings from 8-8-8-24 a little bit to say 7,7,7,24. As with all things PC based there are no hard and fast rules and what works for one system doesn't always work on a seemingly identical one.

It seems to be working fine now for 3 days at 8-8-8-24 1600mhz.

I am wondering if i can run this at 1600mhz 7-7-7-24 without putting a strain on the motherboard?

Im running revision 2.1
Samsung 500gb ATA i think it means Sata?
ATI 1gb 5770 HD graphics card.

I would just like to add that i think Gigabyte is the best board i have ever used, before i used Asus i had 2 faulty boards and both i sent back 2 times then instead of them sending a 3rd i told them to shove it and bought my Gigabyte board :)

Hi again,

the problem isn't the motherboard but the actual CPU you are running.

The memory controllers are part of the CPU and this is the problem. If you haven't read this sticky: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2515.0.html then you should really do so.

Yes i have read this, however Crucial said this ram was 100% compatible, i even ran the Memory Test and it passed 4 times.

Can you please advise me if setting the memory timings to 7-7-7-24 instead of 8-8-8-24 will have an effect on the board or processor?

Also would a 1333mhz set at 7-7-7-24 be faster or quicker than 1600mhz set at 8-8-8-24?

You are better off running your RAM at 1333MHz with the tighter timings as this will put less strain on the memory controller and also protect your CPU.
In real world scenarios the difference between running RAM at 1600MHz & 1333MHz is not really noticeable.

The memory is in fact also 1.5v same as the 1333mhz version which matches the motherboard.

You say tighten the timeings but will it make my pc faster by doing so?

Ok so i got a BSOD called System Service Exception after 5 days of running at 1600mhz, i have lowered this to 1333mhz like you suggested and timeings to 7-7-7-24 is there any way i can tighten the 24?

When it comes to getting the timings right I'm sorry to say that there are no hard and fast rules. You have already gone a little way by going from 8,8,8,24 to 7,7,7,24.

There are lots of parameters that you can adjust and as each system is slightly different it is a case of experimentation to find the best that you can get and keep your system stable.
