GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 and 3x USB Power Boost
« on: August 04, 2011, 04:59:58 pm »
I am considering the purchase of a GA-Z68X-UD7-B3.  I am a flight simmer that runs many USB devices.  I am interested to know more about the 3X USB Power Boost feature of the mother board, more specifaclly, what is it techncially.  Does it provide more amperage?  I think the normal USB spec is 5 volts up to 500Ma each port.

What is 3x USB Power Boost doing beyond the standard USB spec?

Thanks,

Brad

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Gigabyte has increased the power available through the USB ports by roughly 3:1 this is enabled in two ways firstly by the use of the double thickness copper layer on the PCB as it means less waste due to resistance to the passing of the power and by actually increasing the power supplied to the USB power pins. If you want any more detailed information than that you will have to go to the manufacturers. Try GGTS:

Thanks for the note.  "Power" implies that the available amperage has been increased since the USB voltage standard of 5v I am sure left alone.

Power=I x E or
watts= voltage x amperage

It is the amperage I am trying to confirm.

Thanks,

Brad

I don't see where quoting Ohms Law comes into it though ;)
