GA-870A-USB3 rev 3.1
« on: August 19, 2011, 05:18:18 pm »
Hello people.
I just bought an GA-870A-USB3 and Phenom X2 555BE.
I'm trying to use the CPU Unlock feature, but it isn't unlocking anything at all and with this option enabled, sometimes the system don't POST, most cases when I'm rebooting from Windows x64 or from BIOS save.
When booting from power button or from reset button everything goes right, except that its still with 2 cores only.
Anyone to help? Thanks in advance.

Not all cpu's will unlock. If you want a quad core you should have bought a quad core. Buying a Dual core and banking on it unlocking is a risky buisness. It looks like you were not one of the lucky ones.

What I can recomend though is try to take that dual core up to 4ghz. It should be pretty easy!

I read in the thread http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=3323.0 a guy with my the same problem.
The difference is that he was able to unlock extra cores and after a bios update he couldn't PLUS got the reboot issue.
My board comes with F4 bios (the lastest). Maybe I can downgrade to an old version

You can try an early BIOS version to see if that helps and you can download the F3 BIOS from here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3788&dl=1#bios

You'll need to use the @BIOS software or the FLASHSPI.EXE method when flashing the BIOS on this board due to the change in BIOS File sizes.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.
