GA-H55M-USB3 and 3tb drives
« on: November 04, 2011, 04:41:30 pm »
Hi, wondered if somone can help?

I have a GA-H55M-USB3 motherboard and thinking of getting a 3TB Wester Digital Caviar Green Internal Hard Drive to be used purely for storage, not as a boot drive. I have the 64 bit Windows 7 OS.

I've read a bit about the issues with hard drives higher than 2.19TB, but I'm still unsure whether a 3TB drive will work fine with this motherboard, preferably without the HBA card that WD supply with the drive.

If anyone knows or has any experience with this, it would be appreciated.

Many thanks

You could format just that drive to GPT instead of NTFS and utilize the full drive under one drive Letter......or just let the windows install have it's way and slice it up into 2 partitions  , ... Drive "P" and Drive "K" 1.5TB each..... the second is just easier with an NTFS installed OSl.

As Allan said either of these options should work fine so it is just a matter of personal preference really.

The price of all hard drives has shy rocketted recently due to the floods in the Far East. This situation will only get worse as time goes on because the system builders will get first crack at the supplies and the consumer will be left to get what he can at any price. Christmas only worsens things!
